When I was young, probs about 6, there was a song we used to sing as a whole church - it wasn't a hymn, but I loved it but that was the only church I've been to that sang it. The Pastor and wife were Americans.

It went like this I think - (from Psalms)

The testimony of the Lord is pure making wise the simple,

Much sweeter than the honey from the honeycomb.

I have a feeling there's a line or two missing. But the tune has never left me.

That's what in my church we refer to as scripture songs.  Basically they put scripture to music.  I looooove that too.  That is from Psalm 19-7-10,14 with verse 10 being the chorus.

Quote

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of theLord is sure, making wise the simple.

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of theLord are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Thanks for that RR?

Absolutely love this Psalm.

Pity churches don't sing praise/chorus songs anymore.

Trying not to sound picky and dare I say "old!!", but repeating verse one 6 times before getting to the chorus with these modern worship songs, makes me feel like I'm being brainwashed?

All I want really is to sit down and hear the Word of God preached?

some of the contemporary songs are so light on doctrine and heavy on emotion that they sound like the singer is singing a love song to a boy friend or girl friend rather than singing praises to an almighty God------ I have always called this type of song a "Jesus is my boyfriend" song

"Jesus is my boyfriend" is a derogatory description of some new Christian music that people claim sounds like you can't tell the difference between singing to Christ in adoration or singing to a lover.  The phrase has been around for years and is used by those who don't like contemporary Christian music.

It's not literally singing about Jesus as a boyfriend.

I love the old hymns because they are so rich in doctrine-- not only do they praise God but they edify the believer--

I HATE with a passion the new trend of the contemporary " Jesus is my boy friend" tunes and 7-11 praise songs~~ same seven words eleven times~~~ all they do is put the listener in a trance so their brains are more open bad teaching

I have never heard Jesus is my boyfriend, nor would I want to.  I mean praise and worship songs.  Worthy Is The Lamb, Breathe.  It me I can be ushered right into the presence of the Lord.  I'm a hand raiser.  If I couldn't do that I would have to sit on my hands.

Here's a few examples of what I mean by ,  Jesus is my boyfriend type lyrics that are similar to contemporary Romantic Love Song. These just don't make it for me as giving thanks,  Praising and glorifying the Lord.

In the secret, in the quiet place
In the stillness, you are there
In the secret, in the quiet hour I wait only for you
‘Cause I want to know you more
I want to touch you, I want to see your face
I want to know you more
Andy Park
“In the Secret”

"Draw me close"

Draw me close to you
Never let me go
I lay it all down again
To hear you say that I'm your friend
You are my desire
No one else will do
'Cause nothing else can take your place
To feel the warmth of your embrace

Help me find the way
Bring me back to you

You're all I want
You're all I've ever needed
You're all I want
Help me know you are near

Draw me close to you
Never let me go
I lay it all down again
To hear you say that I'm your friend

You are my desire
No one else will do
'Cause nothing else can take your place
To feel the warmth of your embrace

Help me find the way
Bring me back to you

You're all I want
You're all I've ever needed
You're all I want
Help me know you are near

You're all I want
You're all I've ever needed
You're all I want
Help me know you are near

Help me know you are near
Help me know you are near

Ok, thanks Davida,

I can see what you mean and I can see the other side as well tbph.

For those individuals that have had little or no human love, compassion etc shown to them throughout their lives, I can see that it would appeal.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
