This is not easy for me because I smoked some in my younger days, so I may not be qualified to answer this without bias, but here goes.

Assuming you don't live in a state that has made this legal, you are then breaking the law and could get in trouble for that, right? I know God tells us to obey our civil authorities, so if you don't, you may suffer consequences ....not so much from God but from man.

So, assuming you are okay with smoking illegally, The Bible also tells us not to get drunk, but moderation is the key. So, if you decide to break the law, you should not smoke too much that would cause you to lose control (like being drunk) of your mind.  This too can lead to trouble.

As for me, pot is not legal in my state, so I don't smoke it, but if it were legal,  I'd have no problem smoking a joint every so often, knowing the benefits that can result, especially if someone else bought it. (Hehe)  But, I would probably only want to do it in my home or a close friends home with just a few friends (not a party) and I would make sure there was a designated driver, just in case.

I hope this helps a bit,

spock

I like being sober but I smoke out of boredom and habit. I used to smoke meth, addicted to porn, all kinds of wicked stuff. I'd rather be sober but don't see how it can be said that there's no benefits at all. Its just grossely ignorant.

These are bad reasons to smoke or drink or anything else.  I am a recovered drunk (used to have a drinking problem in my teens and early 20s, but was never diagnosed as a alcoholic).   As such I went close to 15 years without every having a drink or anything as I did not trust myself.  I had to move past all my old habits and the reasons I drank.

Today I am a beer enthusiast, I love craft beers and I love to try new ones.  I drink about 5 beers a week, never more than 2 in a night and that is normally when I am out and there are new ones I want to try.   I drink because I like the taste, not to get drunk or because  I am bored.   I think you need to look closely at the reason you are choosing to smoke at this time.

Glad you went from meth to pot. Meth=not good

If anything controls you (you said habit) that is not good in my opinion. That means the pot desire is stronger than the desire of the Holy Spirit. That concerns me.

Like I said, if you are smoking a joint, much like drinking a glass of wine, that is done in moderation and every so often, no big deal except you still have the legality issue. However, if it is a habit, and you have to have it...time to get more help. You should not want anything controlling you, especially a drug.

You should never get high, that is akin to getting drunk.  Neither are good and both are against God's word and will for us.

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

What does the Holy Spirit say to you my brother?

Ephesians 5:18 ESV / 7 helpful votes

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Galatians 5:19-21 ESV / 7 helpful votes

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Getting high is no different than getting drunk on wine.

As well it is an impurity, or another way to look at it from the Galatians passage, it would fall under the "and things like these" part.  It is like drunkenness because it affects your mind, which means you are not sober, or clear-minded, but in an altered state of thought.  No one is judging you on this my friend, I struggled with this very thing myself, let the Holy Spirit guide you.  But I don't think you asked this question because you feel good about it, sounds to me like you are already sensing conviction on the matter.

God bless

I'm a recovering drug addict/schitzophrenic. I love Jesus. I don't sleep around or look at porn but I do still smoke pot from time to time. I don't really see a problem with it but what do you think?

Is it holy?  Does it comport with the character of a Christian, or with the character of world's system that is under Satan's control?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
