Okay, this is King James wording by memory, and then post the scriptures to confirm. The shepherds were to seek a manger where the babe would be found wrapped in swaddling clothes. And there they would find Him. 

Luke 2:12 ¹²And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Luke 2:7-8 ⁷And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. ⁸And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
