Because Satan works hard against repentance, and does not want to see anyone surrendering to Him.

"but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation" - Mark 3:29

 

Or people repent truly, or they will just keep dodging the Holy Spirit and at the end be told: "I never knew you"

Then they will remember all the things they have heard from the prophets, but it will be too late... They will lament and weep for an eternity.

"There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob
    and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves thrust out." - Luke 13:28

 

And how hard it will be to hear such a thing.
