What if I quit smoking? ;)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I could not, I did every thing I knew how to do, patches, gum, mints, candy, you name it, i still smoked..... I was tired of it, i hated it, i could not stand the smell, the dry hack, the broncitis, nothing, I hated it more then anything else at that time. I prayed and prayed and prayed, travailed over it to stop. litterally laid a pack and half on the alter, left them there for Christ to take, only the next day, i picked one up and well, i continued ont... i continued to stuggle over it, i had not fully given it to Christ.

24 oct 2003, at about 4 pm, while working, i lit one up, and took one drag off it and was prompted to toss it out, so I did, and i have never picked one up since, and I thank God for it all the time.....

God is faithful, God can do it....... even IF we can not.

1 Cor 3:10-15

10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But let each man be careful how he builds upon it. 11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds upon the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire ; and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. 14 If any man's work which he has built upon it remains, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as through fire .

NASB

This verse is concerning building on the foundation of Jesus. It mentions building with gold silver and such, my question is could it also be talking about doctrine that is built on the foundation of Jesus????????

Need some input from you all to better think this through....

actually, i believe they bump their heads when they jump, maybe that is why we hear them croaking all the time, they are saying "bummer, bummer, bummer....."every time they jump.

All I know, Sam, is that the Scriptures say we will be rewarded according to what we have done.

Sometimes we worry too much about doctrine and not enough about actions - like what James talked about.

To my brothers and sisters in Christ:

Ya know, as much as I love to debate with y'all because it gives energy to my faith, it is disheartening when we argue over misunderstandings and assumptions. And, I mean that on both sides.

But, I think it brings joy to the Holy Spirit when believers try to find common ground. Something they can affirm in each other without compromising their beliefs. And, I think faith and works is actually one of those things that we mostly agree on, we just have different perspectives and ways of expressing it.

Here's what I think we agree on:

1. Without the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we would all merit hell and would have no chance of salvation.

2. His sacrifice is a gift, we can't earn it; we must however accept it.

3. To accept His gift we must repent of our sins and make a resolution to amend our lives.

4. To accept Christ into our lives and to follow Him means to do what He commands.

But, do we agree on this?---- :noidea:

That, in a sense, just as love can be an "action verb"", as expressed in I Corinthians 13, so also "faith" can be an action verb. To have faith implies a way of life. It implies that we must DO something. NOT that we are saved thru works, but that it is a command from Jesus as His followers to do the work He calls us to do.

Interesting Thread. It reminds me of what i have been taught in my hebrew roots class.

Greek/Hellenistic mindset is one of what we believe about God and about doctrine.

Hebrew mindset is what one does (faith in action) with what they believe.

Maybe James summed it up. "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, decieving yourselfs". James 1:22

"What does it profit, my brethern, if someone says he has faith but not have works? Can Faith save him? " James 2:14

"Thus also Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead". James 2:17

"You see then that a man IS justified by works, and Not by Faith only". James 2:24

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also". James 2:26

I was taught all my life that all I had to do was Believe and that was enough. but even the demons believe, and tremble James 2:19

verses 15 and 16 of chapter 2 in James says "If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,", but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

I thought about that verse for a long time and tried to apply it to the way I was living. I gave my tithes to my local assembly and mostly all it was used for was to pay the pastors and buy new sound systems and lights for the buildings and so on. We had people in much need of basic things such as food and clothing, we had poor and elderly, even a few widows. but if any of them spoke of a need it was always "lets have a car wash, a garage sale, ect.. to meet those needs.

There was nothing really wrong with that, but my assembly took in a lot of tithe money and only 40 dollars went to missions in 2 years time and I know of people who asked the pastor for financial help and he refused to help them.

I believe the body in that assembly was being robbed of the word, always told all you need is faith and thats it. I could never be a chearful giver after i realized how the tithe was being used. God spoke to me and simply said give your money to those in need and thats what I do now. I just slip it in an envelope, write their name on it, put it in the plate and go on.

The "What if" we were wrong is no excuse. We have the word, it tells us what to do, we have the Holy Spirit, He guides us in how to do it.

i did not mean to turn this into a tithing thread, just used it for an example. I believe salvation is more than a "sinners prayer" and hanging out till Yeshua returns. We must put what we believe into action. Shalom

Gerioke and Fiosh I will answer your posts at the same time since they basically contain the same sentiments

Gerioke you state

I can't believe God would mock us for our ignorance. If He were to lose us I would imagine Him crying out to us to turn from our transgressions.

That was not God talking you.

:whistling:

Fiosh you state

When I read your post it was not so much the words of "God", but the tone that stood out for me. God does not "laugh derisively" at His children. I do not recognize that tone from anywhere in God's word.

Firstly one of the worst things that we can have as believers is the wrong image about God and his Messias. Remember one of the questions that was asked at the beginning of this thread was "what if the Messias is already here, but I am restricted from seeing him because I am blinded by the image of him that I have built in my mind from other peoples perceptions?

Now lets take a look at Proverbs 1:20-27 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, [saying],

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

Pay special attention to verses 20-27

Pay special attention to verses 20-27

Now look at Psalms 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Also look at Psalms 59:8 But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

You see I had become a heathen, and I didn

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
