Encountering God and Speaking in tongues

My first encounter with tongues was in 2004, when I gave my life to Jesus. First let me lay some background. Before I knew the Lord I was deep in the occult, hooked on every drug that has a name, and running from God. He was chasing me and I knew it, but I was still running. One night, I was all alone and I started telling God off, I shouted question after question, even cussing him out with things I blamed him. The next day my sister made me go to church with her.

I get there and have to sit in the front because my sister was best friends with the pastor. The worship started and I started to feel something I've never felt before, it was like love and peace became tangible and was giving me a hug. Then, I had an intense anger raise up in me and I heard a voice in my head saying, "I will not give my life to Jesus!!!" It was the first time I realized this wasn't even my thought. I had a demon inside me and this was the first time I felt disconnected from it. All of a sudden the lady on the worship team locked eyes with me and started shouting something in tongues and what ever she said, I was in snot and tears, the demon was ripped out of me and I was shaking and trembling under the intense power of God. Afterword the pastor came up and said, "I feel like the Lord wants me to change my sermon" and preached on everything I shouted at God. I gave my life to Jesus that night. The tongues was never interpreted, but the impact on my life gave enough interpretation.

The next day I was searching through scripture and found 1 Corinthians 12-14. I read it and prayed, "Lord you say ask and it will be given to me, seek and I will find, knock and the door will be open, so I ask for the gift of tongues. A few seconds later my tongue started moving and then when I spoke a whole language came out. I've been praying the same language for the last 14 years, and has been a precious gift that draws my heart closer to the Lord in worship.

Tongues for me is like downloading something off the internet, if you open the file mid way and just see coding, you have no clue what the full download will look like. When we pray in tongues, our spirit prays and things get downloaded into our spirit that will then manifest in our lives whether it be a deeper understanding of scripture and the nature of God, personal breakthrough and victory, wisdom to pour out and help a friend. The more I pray in tongues the more I see divine encounters line up. I believe when we pray in tongues, we are praying the perfect will of God.

^{1 Corinthians 14:2} For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

That which has no understanding but is emotionally discerned as to be a thing from God cannot be evaluated by Scripture... yet God promises that Scripture is the way to go for understanding! Certainly a dilemma wouldn't you say?

Not just emotionally discerned but coming from death to life, from not having God in my life to being filled with Him. To being suicidal, depressed, and angry to feeling peace, joy, and love, which is biblical. The Kingdom is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost, What I experienced is what the bible says is the Kingdom of God. I personally believe she rebuked the demon in tongues and I was set free. Jesus said we know by the fruit. Many people know the word of God, yet the power of it is not manifest in their lives.


Paul didn't understand what he was praying, so he did both.

^{1 Corinthians 14:14} For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. ¹⁵ So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.

I too was baptised in water and about a month later seeking to be baptised in the Holy Spirit I burst forth speaking in a new tongue and I was instantly healed 

there and then from some 25 years plus of cigarette and marijuana smoking, along with alcohol drinking and my addiction to shooting up speed. 

That very afternoon set free from my demons, the old man, all of it wonderfully by the power of God within me. 

That was on 1st December 1996 and I have been praying in tongues ever since, enjoying multitude miracles, healings, blessings and the power to overcome the 

trials and tribulations that come against my faith and my walk. 

And I am still worshipping in spirit and in truth in a disciplined Bible obedient Pentecostal church werein everybody is baptised in water and the Holy Spirit, 

and all have the sign of receiving the indwelling Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues: Our personal spiritual prayer language given by God so that we may transcend our carnal

limitations and pray the deep things needed for our souls and our faith. 

10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. 
11  For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God. 
12  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

In The Revival Fellowship we are obedient and in full accord with the instructions laid down by the apostle Paul in 1Corinthians 14 on how to conduct a formal 

worship and communion meeting in a Spirit-filled church - 

thus we still operate the three voice gifts of the Holy Spirit (separate and distinct to the signs referred to in Mark 16: that is all who believe and receive the indwelling 

Holy Spirit shall know through the sign of speaking in a new tongue). 

diversity of tongues followed by interpretation to a max of three times 

up to three gifts of prophecy - God speaking to his church to give comfort and to edify us.

- Wanting to be baptized, unknowingly of anything much 'christian' I went to my aunt's and uncle's and grandmother's Apostolic Pentecostal church.

Which was in another town an hour and a half away where they lived. And they have a strict dress code and such.

I was baptized on Resurrection sunday and was ask to come back for midweek service to 'tarry for The Holy Ghost' I didn't know what that meant but thought it couldn't be bad.

So when we were worshiping God I started speaking in tongues! Which to make a long story short ended up making my family member indignant with me for one not submitting to their religious regulations and two because none of them had nor never have received The Holy Spirit's gift of tongues although they had been in that church many years tarring for it.

I was a bad witness for them to their adult children whom they had witnessed to about their great church regulations of holiness. So I became family enemy number one to prove me unfit for anything with God or family. Years later my aunt & uncle actually tried ruining me in Court they lost twice and made things look even worse for themselves in the eyes of my cousins. 

I guess you could say they made me look like the white sheep of the family. That uncle died of cancer after my many attempts to reconcile our relationship but to no avail. 

But my experience with The Holy Spirit's gift of tongues has been good as I also pray to interpret as well. Tongues of God's Holy Spirit is for God communicating with us too.

- Hi, in the Greek it says 'Unknown Tongue'.  - 1 Cor.14:27,28

Being 'The Tongues of Angels'.

Which there is need of interpretation by one which either has 'the gift of Interpretation'. Or of the one speaking 'The Tongues Of Angels' 'praying for the interpretation'.

On this account let it be of 'two or three' with interpretation by the gift of interpretation. The use of 'the gift of Interpreting tongues' being in The Assembly.  

And one just 'praying for the Interpretation' is in Private. As this latter has been my experience, (in confirmation of truth being revealed) after I 'prayed for the Interpretation'. When I 'prayed in the spirit' I 'pray for the Interpretation' which is when I'm given it.  So 'I pray in the spirit I will also pray with the understanding'. 'I will sing with the spirit and I will also sing with understanding'.

An Example: One Friday I was praying for the Assembly I was to attend that Sunday. I prayed aloud in the spirits Tongues Of Angels and then I prayed for the Interpretation/understanding.

Then I prayed to God in my language the prayer He had given me in the spirit language.  And it was confirmed that Sunday as it was the same message the Pastor gave the Assembly.  So the prayer I sought from God in the spirit's gift of tongues of angels was preached to the Assembly. Now, I'd call that a Pastoral message from God Himself. It was a message of where the spiritual direction the Assembly would be going. (after the Pastor had left) No surprise to me since he taught he and Jesus were Head of that Assembly at a church acceptance class of new members. Which after that first class I decided I wasn't going to 'join' under him. But it was the Lord's will for me anyway as now I'm a true non-denominationalist.

 

- With the known 'Tongues Of Men' as on the day of Pentecost no Interpretation is needed. 

But just of such ones to translate what was said from their own language of what was said from The Spirit.

Which no 'gift of interpretation' nor prayer of Interpreting from the one speaking is needed.

And there may be no certain number of two or at the most three speaking, of any turn.

Hi Joshua-777,

That is wonderful bro. My experience was in the `60`s high up in the highlands of New Zealand at a young people`s camp. I received the fullness of the Holy Spirit and appreciate that he builds my spirit up as I communicate with this heavenly tongue. So it has been over 50 years since then and how blessed we all are that the Lord Himself would give of His Holy Spirit to His people to make us more like unto Himself.

Good point to remember is that the precious Holy Spirit is given so that we focus on the Lord, for that is whom He has been given to glorify the saviour and Lord Jesus Christ. Always, but always focus on the Lord. The different moves of the Holy Spirit went astray somewhat when people focussed on the Holy Spirit and not on the Lord.

`However when He, the Spirit of Truth has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify me, for He will take of what is mine and declare it to you.` (John 16: 13 & 14)

YES they are correct. A disciple of Jesus Christ, a Christian must be born new again by water baptism and Holy Spirit baptism, with the Bible evidence of speaking in a new tongue. 

Praying in tongues is the only sign given in our NT as to the truth of receiving the indwelling Holy Spirit. 

Jesus himself declared that this would be: 

15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 
16  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 
17  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Mark 16: 

The true church of God - the Spirit-filled church would be a church wherein all members would undergo baptism by water and the Spirit, and all would pray in tongues; 

and there would be the demonstration of God's power and purpose in His church - signs, healings, miracles, blessings in abundance. 

You need to be with Pentecostal (not charismatic) Christians who can teach and share with you the full gospel of salvation and help you to seek for the baptism of the 

Holy Spirit. When you receive the indwelling Holy Ghost you will both speak in tongues (praying in the Holy Ghost) and you will know that Jesus is truly your Lord and 

God, your Saviour.
