Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."

Marilyn C posted that 'Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus' is one of her favorite hymns. I feel the same way. So I decided to print the lyrics to it below. Written by Helen H. Lemmel in 1922  Subjects: Exhortation,Encouragement

Just wondering, How many of you have sung this hymn? Any personal stories to share on what it has meant to you? For me, it has helped to redirect my eyes away from my sad thoughts to the Lord Himself and to lose myself in Him. My childhood pastor had us sing this one quite a bit during worship. Precious memories...how they linger. :)

verse 1

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Refrain:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

verse 2

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!

verse 3

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Hi tt

Oh, the joy of singing this hymn.  I always thought it was the Gaithers who penned this.  Thanks for letting me know who it really was.

The fact is, I should be turning my eyes upon Jesus much more.  When I feel down, I need to "switch my thinking", forget about myself and other things and concentrate on Him and worship Him.  (Another song that comes to mind.)

I just appreciate being able to come here and read others' posts and feel so uplifted!  Praise Him.

Hi turtletwo, so glad you posted the words and listened again to the song, by Alan Jackson.

Hi SisterActs2,

You love that one too. You will be soooo blessed if you hear Alan Jackson singing, (on utube). It  always brings tears to my eyes, especially the part -

`...Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Marilyn.

Hi Turtle,

I love the chorus to this song, it is a great reminder that we need to consciously change our focus from our situation on to the Lord and make sure that He is our focus.

I can remember growing up I had one of those wind up toys that would play a song. The one toy was a church, and I used to love hearing the song coming out from the church.

It is amazing what memories we have when it comes to music.

I hope you have a great day.

:) What a neat memory and an unusual toy! I have never seen anything like that. I wonder where it was sold. Maybe a Christian book store?

I am glad you enjoy "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus," too. You are right about music. It serves necessary purposes in our lives...it helps us lighten our loads and of course, worship our Lord.

Plus, it is takes us back to times and places gone by. As you pointed out in the true story you shared. Music is one more special gift our Creator has blessed us with.:)

Thanks Turtletwo,

I don't know where my gran even found something like that. WE grew up in Africa and my gran would often send packages with clothes and such for us. She was always on the lookout for good deals and such.

Hope that you have a great day.

Jesus is the creator and our father. He loves us for our good deeds, as well well as guides us away from the bad ones. He has always been my side and I feel him near to me whenever I am in need. He wants us to help the needy and have faith in him. I always try to help others as in this way I can stay close to him, my real father. I devote my work, Corinthian's Corner to him and in this quest donate some percentage of my income for the betterment of the poor.

:) I like how you call her your 'gran.' I've never heard that before. We sometimes said Gram, with an m. Others say nana and even granny. It's cute.

It is interesting about you growing up in Africa. This is a country I have always felt spiritually burdened for since my youth (and drawn towards mission work there.)

I can't help wondering what it was like for you as a girl to live there.

:) A smart shopper makes for a smart lady. She sounds like a lovely person who was engaged in the lives of her grandkids.

I enjoy reliving memories. Thanks again for sharing and have a nice day.

Thank you, Turtletwo,

Yes, this brings back memories to me, of my years growing-up in Christ in a Christian mission hall, surrounded by love.  Of times of quiet contemplation and prayer; of tears flowing in gratitude at the grace which had saved me.

With love in Christ Jesus

Chris

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
