As a side note, the thing about the beat of the music is that it appeals to the desires of the flesh

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

:24: How does a beat "appeal to the desires of the flesh"?

Got a Scripture to go with that?

I'm sorry dear friends, but as a trained classical musician, a "beat" in and of itself is in no way sinful, nor is there anything in the Bible that states this...The reason maybe some persons feel it's "evil" is that it they subconciously connect it with maybe a song they have heard previously, or a band, that produces questionable material.

Have you ever really sat and listened to classical? Appealing to the desires of the flesh? Hmmm... It's some of the most romantic music available if you ask me, so if we use this theory stated above, then classical music is sinful as well because it gets some people "in the mood"...

I find nothing wrong with any "beat" or "genre" that glorifies the Lord with the lyrics. I have also said before, Christian Rock can reach a whole flock of unbelievers that maybe other things wouldn't have. Christian Rock can be a blessing for new converts that previously played secular music, who still enjoy making music, but not the previous with questionable messages...

Truesunn,

It is great to have ya back !.

Yeah Like what you say, there is no "beat" that cannot be used to worship God.

Not sure what to think about music.... why is this such a major topic? and why do people argue over it so? Doesn't all this arguing over it just show that many Christians are divided over what the bible says or does not say up front?

I wanna say that this topic doesn't matter, but it does because every way we worship God is important... why didn't God just say what was right and wrong about this? (is now in a state of confusion)

He did Kitty. I highly suggest you read the article I linked you to. God intended all things to glorify Him so long as they are not used for evil. By evil I mean for personal glory or sinful reasons.

A person playing the guitar simply to play, even with no words, is not doing anything evil. A person playing the guitar in order to get a woman into bed is obviously playing it with evil intentions. It is a case by case thing, not a blanket sin.

It's a puritan idea that music is evil...and ironically enough it goes all the way back to the gnostics. Again, I suggest you read the article.

This is one of my favorites right now. It's from Mercy Me's most recent cd called Undone. I love this song!! It makes me feel so humbled inside for what Yeshua did for me. He freed me!

No apologies

For who I'm meant to be

The only thing that matters is

I am free

When I am overwhelmed

Holding pieces of my heart

When I feel my world

Start to fall apart

To the cross I run

Holding high my chains undone

Now I am finally free

Free to be what I've become

Undone

Even in defeat

The face of tragedy

Still you'd have to say that

I found victory

In brokenness comes beauty

Divine fragility

Reminding me of nail scarred hands

Reaching out for me

To the cross I run

Holding high my chains undone

Now I am finally free

Free to be what I've become

To the cross I run

Holding high my chains undone

Now I am finally free

Free to be what I've become

Undone

Hallelujah I'm undone!

To the cross I run

Holding high my chains undone

Now I am finally free

Free to be what I've become

To the cross I run

Holding high my chains undone

Now I am finally free

Free to be what I've become

Undone

To the cross I run

To be what I've become

And I'm undone

People can listen to whatever music they want to. It's their choice, not yours.

I am new to worthyboards and have just finished reading this topic and all the comments. I have been a christian a little over 2 years and too have wondered about this question of music. After reading all the opinions/comments I too have now made up my mind. There is nothing wrong with christian rock or a certain beat of music as long as it is used to glorify God.

Thank you all who did comment on this topic all opinions were very helpful even the ones I did not agree with.

I actually had a minister tell me that electric guitars were created only to give glory to Satan. I wonder what King David would say about that. He liked stringed instruments.I bet he would have gone electric.  Electric guitars were created so guys like Les Paul and Dejango Reinhardt could be heardover the rest of the band.

There will be a band in heaven. A good one!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
