Typhus Outbreak, Los Angeles

We are having an outbreak of Typhus in the San Gabriel area of Los Angeles.   I believe we also had some cases on skid row.   I always thought of Typhus as being one of these older diseases that was pretty much eradicated.  Does anyone know more about this?   I know it comes from infected fleas, but I wonder how this outbreak happened.

Hi, I think you will find it is endemic and rather common to that area.

Typhus, Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, and Yellow fever,  were answers to California State exams years and years ago where health pathology microbiology questions get asked of everyone, from hair dressers, barbers, to embalmers, that are taking State licensing exams; and probably still are. Remembering them were worth a few points on those exams.

I've noticed the emergence of numerous other diseases once thought eradicated in pockets around the globe; such as polio, small pox, typhus, etc. In addition, there appears to be other new deadly diseases and new avain's HN popping up and mutating globally. With the advent of; thousands of crowded cities, super markets, sports arena's, hotels, conventions, etc. What once took months / years to spread, can now occur in just hours via aircraft.

Most here I assume believe we are living in the latter part of the church age, and the Lord's return is very near. If that be true, one would think we should be seeing precursors of biblical prophecy and the signs of the times. We see the "emergence" of everything prophetic in our generation occurring.

Matthew 24:7 (KJV) For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. [Emphasis mine]

I know, I know my bad; it's the Conservatives, global warming and biblical hate speech causing these problems. I just can't seem to jump on the political correctness band wagon... Thank you Lord!

Epidemic typhus is due to Rickettsia prowazekii spread by body lice, scrub typhus is due to Orientia tsutsugamushi spread by chiggers, and murine typhus is due to Rickettsia typhi spread by fleas. There is currently no commercially available vaccine. Prevention is by reducing exposure to the organisms that spread the disease.

I don't know which form is happening in Southern California, but if from lice is most likely coming across the border.    Or an invasion from rats or mice population growth carrying the fleas from God knows where.

BTW- Hows the weather? Good for fleas? ??? We are having a terrible outbreak of fall here with temperatures already below 90 degrees. No fleas though, just  a few blue jays and an occasional gator hanging out on golf courses. Love gator nuggets and spinach salad don't you'll?

Season opening for really good water sports now, going to have some nice winds soon too, kayaks, cats, wind surfers, kite boarding, wow, people having fun on earth, even those that are Christians. What an amazing time and place. Thank you Lord for some really good times of thanksgiving each day.

Fyi typhus is not the same as typhoid fever. In this era of globalization one can expect a return of older and third world diseases entering the us.(This is not one that suddenly entered though.)
