Marrying within the same race is like inbreeding, the children seem to take on the worse characteristics and features. Mixed races seem to produce such beautiful children with unique combinations of both charcteristics and factures that are often the best of both worlds. Strange... but my best feature is the high cheek bones of a cherokee.

Hmm, I was once told it is not the Race issue, it is the lifestyle chosen when you engage in a relationship such as that. My father forbid me to see any girl of another culture.....

You hit the nail on the head, IMO.

Race issues are not really about skin color and facial features.

Race issues are actually culture issues.

Think about it. when you think of a person of another race, what comes to mind? Looks? Or lifestyle, clothing styles, manner of speach, attitude(s), food preferences, etc.?

As for dating, you can get past the "concept" once you get to know the person. Then once you recognize the cultural "quirks" that irk you, you can work through those.

Bet even after this, if there's still a problem, then is it the "race" or the person?

If the person is godly, rejoice and be glad!

If the person is not godly, then why are you worried about race? Ungodliness is reason enough to not hav eyour daughter date him!

If the they are both Christians it should not matter what "race" they are.

Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Now, if they are not both Christians then I could see where the problem would arise. But, 2 kids sold out for Jesus Christ should be a winner, as long as they are both equally committed to the Lord.

2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

They need to be "equally yoked." Now, in it's purest sense this means they must both be children of the God. But, I think there is another meaning/principle at stake here. They should also be equally yoked in the sense that they a similarly committed to God.

For example, if you have a girl who has a heart fo missions and the guy wants to be a pew-potato... then that is being unequally yoked.

If you have a guy who feels called to be a Pastor, and the woman is not chaste and discreet, then this is being unequally yoked.

How is this unequally yoked?

If my relatives disowned my kids for the company they kept I would disown my relatives.

I would rather have my kids have real relationships with outsiders than to have superficial relationships with relatives.

Love conquers all

I don't think there is ANYTHING wrong with dating or marrying someone of a different race. As someone else said, we are all part of the HUMAN race, and just because we are different colors doesn't change that. The only thing that is important is your relationship with the Lord. If my daughter found an awesome man of God that loved her, why should I care what race he was?

That is what I would be worrying about with my children, not the race of the person they were seeing, but the intention behind their dating, and their commitment to God.

LOL! Sorry. I forgot the word "not" before "chaste and discreet. I'll go edit it now.

*laugh* thanks for clearing that up, Trust & Obey, had me confused, too :emot-highfive:

Have you guys ever heard that DC Talk song called "Colored People"? It's on the Jesus Freak album if you wanna go looking for it. Here are the lyrics:

Pardon me, your epidermis is showing (sir)

I couldn't help but note your shade of melanin

I tip my hat to the colorful arrangement

'Cause I see the beauty in the tones of our skin

We've gotta come together, and thank the Maker of us all

We're colored people, and we live in a tainted place,

We're colored people, and they call us the human race,

We've got a history so full of mistakes

And we are colored people who depend on a holy grace

A piece of canvas is only the beginning

It takes on character with every loving stroke

This thing of beauty is the passion of an artists' heart

By God's design we are a skin kaleidoscope

We gotta come together, aren't we all human after all?

...

That's not the whole song, but I think that bit gets the point across. I love the emphasis on grace in this song, and how it turns the focus to God's hand in diversity.

I don't have a whole lot else to say, since I've never been in that kind of situation (considering I don't have kids of my own)...but anyway, I just thought that song (coming from a musical group consisting of two whites and one African-American) puts things into perspective.

I don't think your biggest issue should be what race your daughters are dating, but the fact that they are dating at all. I would caution you about letting your daughters get into exclusive relationships, especially at a young age. Most young couples who are dating exclusively are going to be having pre-marital sex. The statistics about this speak volumes. I would encourage your daughters to be in group settings, and I would also not allow you daughters to be alone with boys, either in a car, or at your own home. Be careful about letting them be in the basement alone. Definantly set som strict ground rules. Good luck, this is a tough time

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
