I just saw the film clip of the President doing that today on Meet The Press.   To me, it just seemed the President's way of acknowledging that God has now placed him in this position as President.   Isn't that the truth, that God sets a person up and sets another down?

Moses, Aaron, and Miriam for instance. Cometh the hour cometh the man and the woman. But who will the first United States female president be, and will they beat Australia's first female prime minister to be elected? NZ is swimming in female leaders of nation, so come on USA...get it together and join the party as it were. :soapbox:

being male or female, black or white, Christian or Atheist, etc. etc. are not reasons to elect leaders. How about we choose who we think will do the best job of governing, best represent the citizens, from among the choices which we are allowed.

For example, I did not vote for Obama, I did not think he had any experience that I thought relevant, not to mention that he already showed signs, of being racially divisive. I do not think that is a desirable quality. It is not that I am not wanting a black president, at least two black presidential hopefuls of the past, were my favorite candidates for the office.

I admit, that I voted for Trump, and I dislike the person, he has some terrible qualities. However, he was electable, and between he and Hillary, there just was no way I could vote for her. Again, not a gender issue, there are plenty of women out there who I believe would be great leaders. Hillary, is not one of them, I would choose a chimp tossing darts at a board to make decisions over her, as long as it was an natural born, American citizen, over 35 years of age. At least it would likely be morally neutral, not evil.

I think it would be better, though not practical, if we voted for people not knowing what they looked like, what their gender or race is, why would that be important? I want to know what they think, and what their record or experience is, I want qualified people, not people that some group of people in power, think I should be allowed to choose from.

Fair comment, Omega's. Funny thing about who gets elected and why in our country. The current government is a coalition of three parties, neither of whom won the majority of votes on their own in the last election. Unfortunately the National Party that did get the most votes did not quite have a house majority on its own which meant the remaining parties could then colaborate to block everything, even normal day to day supply.

Just before the last election the Labour Party Opposition changed its leadership by a man in favour of Jacinda, which greatly helped their chances, and with their coalition partners, the NZ First Party, and the minority Green Party, they were able to form a government.

Personalities play a huge role, but my tongue in cheek comment was in the context of God raising up whomever He wills...and we wait with expectation for the result.

God does say He appoints rulers and He takes them down at His discretion. Every president has been the appointed one for that time. Trump is indeed appointed, or “chosen” by God for this time. It’s ok. Let it be.

thanks for this.

The Word tells us to obey the civil magistrates because they are appointed by God or something to that effect

He WAS chosen.. by We the People

As you say: Let it be.

I believe that to be true.....I hope God appointed him to show the stupidity of the Electoral College and that as far as impeachments go— the third time is a charm. Covfefe.Sad.

The Electoral College is NOT stupid. Without it a handful of cities would decide every single federal election this nation has....which means that whoever puts out the best ads in those cities controls everything.

Remember, we are a Republic of STATES...not just some mass with all the same needs, wants, etc... Representatives are assigned by population..Senators are assigned two per state, giving smaller states a voice in political matters.

I can't even imagine what kind of nonsense would exist in America if only voters from densely populated cities chose all of our leadership. Look how well things are going for New York, Chicago, L.A....

the ones who want an end to the electoral college are the ones who couldn't care less about what is right, namely liberals. If a confused person or young person ever doubts this, that liberals don't care about what is right..

well, at the risk of sounding repetitious.. What is the party that endorses DEATH for children in the womb?

And even aside from that most-important of issues, they are totally wrong about things like: the economy. OMG.. Their policies would totally destroy this country. No exaggeration: if the socialists win, we are on our way to being another Venezuela

You do know that there are pro-choice Republicans.  Republicans for Choice was founded in 1989 by conservative fundraiser and activist Ann Stone.

Go look it up.

I just saw a short bit and was quoting what I heard. Thanks for the context but I still think that's a bad way to make any point. If he wasn't declaring himself to be "The Chosen One"  then he must be using  using the phrase in a  flippant or mocking way. Either way, I don't care for it. BTW, I went there and watched the entire video and you are correct that he had his hands in that position several times but when he made that statement is the ONLY time he turned his eyes toward heaven.

Shalom, unworthyservant.

Don't let it bother you too badly. Trump often makes bold comments based on movie quotes, and I imagine this was like an imitation of Harry Potter saying this to Hermione and getting SLAPPED for it!

Trump has this dry sense of humor and seldom cracks a smile. That's part of what gets him into so much trouble; people don't know how to handle his comments!

i haven't seen any female worthy of the presidency save Carly Fiorina and maybe a few others I cannot recall at the moment. On the D side... OMG!

The party of big government

the party of baby killers

the party of socialism, which means the party that has no problem with what has happened in Venezuela under socialism... I mean, the Ds are bonkers. They just do not seem to THINK.. and worse (much worse) they have no ethical standards. Politics rules all with those "people" using the term lightly....

(That said.. I need not have said anything after "the party of baby killers," as that says [to we the rational] all we need to know)
