Yep, squirrels manage to do the same to cars. Cost me quite a few dollars to have an RV towed and repaired the engine compartment having been used as home and food source for squirrels. I do dislike those tree rats so!

Actually squirrels teeth grow constantly much like beaver's teeth do. They must chew or their teeth will grow so much they can't eat at all and they die. That is evidently why they eat lead roof vent shields.

I recently had to remove much of the plastic wheel well shroud from my wife's newer pick up truck as a squirrel had managed to get in the well through a  slit at the factory seam of that shroud, and got trapped, and died death into a stinky squirrel carcass. That day I disliked all squirrels, and really disliked Ford for it's poor conception of how to manufacture a vehicle.  But in the bigger picture it is all small stuff, just small stuff. God is good so good.

here is an example of  our laid back squirrels.   The tree in the background is a 65 foot pecan tree that feeds the little buggers...

That is correct. It does not sound like this was a human. So it was a wood rat? They still do carry disease.

So do humans.

Its a she. He has seen her nursing babies.

Maybe he should name her buddy.

Oh my, babies? Well, then. That could pose a problem. And soon!

I don't think I would encourage a rat and leave food for it. They do carry disease.

Neither would I. But then again, with cats this sort of thing runs its course pretty quickly.
