The references for both Christians and non Christians.: The devil is always around to tempt us

Non Christians not only can be oppresses, they can be possessed.

A christian cannot be possessed, but (they) certainly can be oppressed.

About control?  When you have an oppressive spirit lingering around you, it can take hold . It is very powerful and a person needs to first recognize the oppression and ask God to deliver them from that oppression

The devil being around is not control. Temptation is not control. Neither is oppression.

Where is the scripture that states an oppressive spirit can take hold of a Christian?

If control of oppression are being conflated, and if no scripture stating these claim can be provided then I am going to respectfully suggest 1) a lack of understanding on the matter exists, and 2) scripture is not the measure of your life, at least not on this topic. It's not personal, I would ask this of anyone claiming satan can have control over a Christian if s/he allows it.

So show me the scripture.

It was late for me last night to respond back but I did try to respond and today I had to work but briefly tried to respond in the morning,

I gave you the best responses I could. Thank you for your reference books,

the site i gave was a passage from a book. I did not read the book , you did, i just saw two paragraphs that seem to answer your question to the question you asked.

I do not have the intention to go on with long debates with you, ( I just don't have the time, ) i mentioned one can be oppressed as a christian. I understand what that means. It is scriptural.

Those who have struggled and have found deliverance, spiritual recovery know what I am talking about. And then many don't or disagree. To each his own.

Did you ever hear of the book pigs in a parlour?

if you disagree with that book than we are not on the same understanding, and most likely never will be.

In Christ Jesus always;

Scripture where Jesus made open show of satan's defeat? Colossians 2:15 (NIV) And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

And how is it many otherwise devoted and well-meaning sincere Christians either 1) deny this profound truth or 2) don't live consistent with it?

If a Christian will truly exercise faith that he knows is necessary, there will be no question as to the answer. One can get healing, health, success in business or in any undertaking, prosperity, happiness, or anything that would cause one to be victorious in any phase of life. Not my idea, not my pet theory, just the simple truth straight from God's Holy Word.

(Matthew 17:20; 12:22; Mark 11:22-24; John 15:7, 16: Romans 8:32; Hebrews 11:6; James 1:5-8).

Faith is simple. It is believing God without waver, without doubting, and without questioning what He says He will do. It is taking God at His Word and believing that what He has promised He will do, He is able to perform. It is believing not only that He is able, but He will do it. It is the quality of counting those things that be not as though they were (Romans 7:17). Faith is also the absolute conviction that what God has promised and what we have asked according to His Word is done already. It is the substance of things hoped for and the first payment on things that we desire from God (Hebrews 11:1-3)

There is no scripture stating satan can control a Christian!

I explained control, already, in terms of having an oppressive spirit. Addictions are part of that.

Jesus did free people but warned them that if they go right back into their sin, they will invite back the demons he cast out and more .

No, this is a spiritualized over-generalization. Chemicals addictions are biological diseases not caused by satan. Even non-chemical addictions like those to pornography or gambling typically have their roots in physiological changes in the body at a cellular level. Unless it is going to be claimed satan can manipulate human cells an uninformed error is going to have to be acknowledged. And if the premise satan can manipulate human cells is asserted then I'm gonna ask for scripture stating such a thing and we'll be back to where we were before. Conflating "control" with "oppression"  is both unscriptural and irrational. Furthermore the example given is not that of regenerate believes. A false equivalency has been argued! The fact is control is not oppression and if a Christian is oppressed it occurs within the context of God's promises to His children beginning with Romans 8:28.

Yes, Jesus did warn people against being re-inhabited by untoward spirits, but he did not predicate it on sin. Critical error. Go back and read Matthew 12:43-45 again. What Jesus predicated the inhabiting of spirits upon was the house being empty

Those in which the Holy Spirit dwells cannot be inhabited by ungodly spirits.

These kinds of errors occur when relying on extra-biblical sources and not the word of God as written plainly read. These kinds of errors also occur because of a lack of comparative reading of such sources. This forum works, in part, on the true of Proverbs 27:17. The same truth is at play among theologians and academics in the body of Christ and it is through diverse discourse that sound thought, sound doctrine, and sound practice is revealed. Based on the facts in evidence in these posts the reliance of Anderson happens so intensely that it has reached a willingness to ignore any other additional information. It has reached the point where things nowhere existing in the Bible are believed, such as the belief satan can control Christians, and sin is the reason spirits can inhabit a Christian.

Praise the Lord! This is excellent as other posts in this thread.

The enemy would very much enjoy it if born from above sons would believe that he can control or oppress them. There are all kinds of lies out in this world's air floating around. Things contrary to the scriptural record out Father provided.

The battle takes place in our minds and our minds are subject to what we take in...we battle the lies with scripture and the understanding of who we are and the power of the indwelling Christ/Holy Spirit.

I discussed some of this in a wee essay--written in simple terms.

Most of Satan's existence has been a catalogue of defeats.

1) He defeated himself, when he became lifted up with pride.

2) He and his army were defeated by the holy angels and thrown out of heaven.

3) He, in the form of a serpent, was punished for tempting Adam and Eve.

4) He accosted Job repeatedly ... and brought about God's purposes in so doing.

5) He tempted Jesus in the wilderness and failed to get him to sin.

6) He wanted to sift Peter like wheat, but Jesus prayed for Peter, so that his faith did not fail.

7) He was defeated on the cross, as demonstrated by Jesus' resurrection.

8) He is continually defeated in the lives of true Christians, because the Lord always leads us in triumphal procession, in Christ.

9) He is continually defeated by the word of our testimony.

10) His fiery darts are quenched by the shield of faith.

11) He will be defeated finally, when he is thrown into hell, where the worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.

This list is not exhaustive.

Having said all that, we should not be blase, because a defeated foe can still inflict wounds, albeit not spiritually fatal ones, on genuine Christians.

What Can Demons Do?

Demons continue to serve Satan on earth by luring mankind away from God.

Despite their expulsion from heaven, Satan’s demons continue to serve him in his plot to control the earth by luring people into sin (Revelation 12:9).

The Bible warns of Satan’s grave threat to humanity by referring to him as “the god of this age” (2 Corinthians 4:4) who “prowls” the earth “looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Demons are no less dangerous, as the Bible describes them as: “impure spirits” (Mark 1:27), “deceiving spirit” (1 Kings 22:23), “the powers of this dark world” and  “the spiritual forces of evil” (Ephesians 6:12), and as Satan’s “angels” (Revelation 12:9).

The Bible tells us that Satan and his demons can inflict harm on earth by:

Possessing people to cause them physical and spiritual harm (Matthew 12:22; Mark 5:1-20) and to make them do evil (Luke 22:3-4) Blinding the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot see the light of the Gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4) Deceiving people by disguising themselves as “servants of righteousness” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15) Promoting false doctrine (1 Timothy 4:1) and performing signs to deceive humans (Revelation 16:14) Tormenting believers (2 Corinthians 12:7)

How Can Christians Resist Evil?

Christians can resist Satan and his demons by putting on the full Armor of God.

Demons are NOT the fallen heavenly beings or the already judged 'sons of God'.

Demons are the disembodied spirits of dead Nephilim. They are small fry and allowed to harass us.

The 'principalities and powers' are many times more lethal and run the territorial wickedness in high places. Originally put in charge over the nations, Deut 32, yet they failed and entrapped humans and were judged in Psalm 82 to 'all die like men'.

It is very sad that today, no one seems to teach about the supernatural. In Yeshua's day all this was well known and the apostles refer to it frequently in their writings.

The Helmet of Salvation (Ephesians 6:17). A helmet is the last thing soldiers put on before stepping out onto the battlefield. The helmet protects the “command center” that is the mind/head. If that “command center” gets injured, all other armor on the soldier’s body becomes useless. Likewise, demonic forces know that our mind is a battlefield susceptible to sinful suggestions, doubt, and deceit. When we focus our thoughts on the salvation Jesus gave his believers through His Crucifixion and Resurrection, we “demolish arguments…against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
