If you look at the news today, you will see reports about dire environmental issues happening throughout the world. One of these, are the fires happening in the Western part of the United States. When we then look at the lyrics in the song "Hotel California" by the Eagles, where some dance to remember, while others dance to forget; when applied to what is currently transpiring in California, one could interpret these lyrics to mean that those who dance to remember, are those who continue with their daily lives looking back fondly on how things were better in the past, while those who dance to forget, continue with their daily actions, trying to forget how things were better in the past, when the skies were not always orange from so many fires. 

Recognizing therefore the fires as the issue, and that attempts would be made to mitigate the catastrophe at hand; the lyrics, where in their masters chambers, they stab at the beast with their steely knives, but just can't kill the beast; could be interpreted as bringing up valid points to kill consumerism policy that is the underlying cause for the fires, but due to the love for material goods, their points of reason are ultimately unsuccessful in killing their master, (consumerism) the beast.

Your part about the "beast " is spot on as to the meaning of the song. I looked up the story behind this song years ago and that is basically what it said the "beast" in the song was. I'm getting ready to run out the door here so I don't have time to look it up right now. But will do so when I get back tonight.

Yes, I remember the Top 40 Hit well. The Eagles had gotten lead singer and guitarist for The James Gang, Joe Walsh, to join the group and he remained with them for about five years or so before resuming his solo career again. An immensely talented player and composer, but his vocals were admittedly not the greatest. That didn't divert me from being a fan of Walsh and all my friends were also fond collectors of his albums.

Joe was a great boost to The Eagles popularity and together made some of the best hits on the radio making them even more successful than they were previously. The outstanding style of playing his trademark sound of slide guitar he was so well known for could hardly be unsurpassed. When Walsh left the group, The Eagles disbanded and their long lived status as a band and hit makers were then over. 

What about the song, Hotel California? Primarily, it appeared to be a cryptic nightmarish tune.

It is a cryptic nightmarish tune, but it also seems to be accurate spot on prophecy.

I think the beast who devours the whole earth is the beast's consumerism policy.
