Is TV a sin? I ask because i think it is... There was no TV in the beginning before sin arrived, so its not something God intended us to do (watching TV.) I know violent videos, and tv shows/movies are a sin most definitely there's no doubt about it, but what about shows and videos that are to build someones confidence and body through healthy dieting and exercise/weight lifting videos. Or what about TV shows about Jesus or religious motivational videos? They all bring good thing's, but again God didn't intend for us to watch TV, and it wasn't here in the beginning, so is it a sin in general for all TV/Videos/Movies to be watched? I ask because i stopped watching TV about a year ago, and haven't watched not one TV show/Movie/video since... Besides one specific video i watch here and there, but i don't watch it i turn my screen off and listen to it. Aside from that one video, I haven't watched nothing because I think it's sinfull.

Please really think about this question and answer it with as much truth as possible

What is sin?

In understanding that we can know what things are sinful.

Sin is not obeying God's commands and they are summed up as: Love the Lord you God with All your being and Love your neighbour as you love yourself.

Failure to do these is sin.

So TV in its self is no more sinful then a book or magerzine, but as you know they all can show images, descriptions that cause one to have sinful thoughts.

Here's a challenge for you.

Start listening to William lane craigs debates about Christianity, you'll find them on the reasonablefaith web site.

It is something far better than religious videos.

"It didn't exist before the fall" is not a very good argument. The internet, medicine, driving cars, talking on the phone, reading books...where do you stop with that line of logic? Heck, the Bible didn't exist before the fall. Is reading the Bible sinful?

TV certainly can be used in a plethora of sinful ways, of course.

In as much truth as possible, TV is as sinful as using the internet.

I'm not entirely sure, however I can't help but think that there was a chance that he was just pulling our drumsticks.

I joined my first Christian message board back in 2004 (or was it 05?), and this topic does come up and at the end of the day, it was either legalism or trollism.

I once asked (a troll), if they surf the internet and their obvious answer was, "yes." So I dealt the hand of, "I assume you use a cell or a computer, however, with todays technology many a TV can be used to browse the internet. If I'm surfing Youtube early in the morning to listen too worship songs with my cell and later in the day, I sat in the living room and use the TV to find worship music on Youtube... was I righteous in the morning and then doing the exact same thing in the afternoon, sinful because I was using the TV?

I will troll, the trolls.

TV is a tool.  It can be used for good and for bad.   like a screwdriver...   you can build with it or tear down or kill.

TV itself is not a sin, it depends on what you watch.

TV is wrong for you to watch (sin) because your faith disallows it. Read Romans 14 to learn more about how some things are sin, for some.

If you think the same exact things are sinful to all, you would have either said TV is sinful or sinless rather than ASKING. Romans 14 will help you understand this.

I don't think TV is a sin, though I think it would be sinful to watch certain types of programs.

TV itself is not a sin. I see TV as a doorway to lots of potential problems same as smart phones or other portable devices.

If you don't watch TV then you are never open to these potential problems. If you do watch TV you could potentially see something you shouldn't see or be influenced to think something you would have never considered. You have a lot of availability with TV. You could watch a porno or a soft porno which some try to say isn't really bad when we know it is. You could watch a show with foul language or so called "alternate lifestyles". The temptation doesn't exist if you never turned it on. This is what happened to David. He was idle and went looking around.

Even if all you watch is Mary Poppins, TV is still a great waster of time same as the internet can be or staring into a smart phone on social media. I always said if I found good wholesome programming and had nothing else to do I wouldn't mind watching TV sometimes. I haven't had this luxury for awhile now. There always seems to be something else to do. Maybe late in the evening I'm watching YouTube videos for 20 or 30 minutes. Probably time I should be sleeping. I sometimes feel even that is a waste of my time.

Our lives are made up of time. If we use it all up life is over. Do you want to stand in front of the Lord trying to explain how you wasted most of your life in front of an electronic gadjet? Not me. I see nothing wrong with the occasional movie if a person has the time or is in some way unable to go out and do something else far more productive. Some people plop in front of a TV and let it babysit them all day.

My MIL from my 1st wife had a TV on all the time...even through Thanksgiving Dinner. Never could understand that.
