Why did God change the dietary laws after the Flood?

Dennis, you asked this question on another thread and I don't care to keep going around and around on that thread....so thought it would be a good discussion all of its own.  I believe God gave those new dietary laws for the PURPOSE of shortening the life span.  The world gets much worse much faster when bed people live hundreds of years. So He changed the diet and allowed people to eat foods that would shorten their lifespan thereby slowing down the progression of evil in the world...

This is interesting speculation, but that is all it is. The point of these discussions for the Born from above sons of God comes down to law-keeping and bondage juxtaposed against the freedom and rest in Christ regarding these things and there is clear language in the NT that sheds light on the subject. There--in the NT--is where we are to find what we need to understand.

I could use the same logic of yours and say that God allowed humanity to eat meat [and made it a "fair fight" by putting the fear of man into the animals] to keep humans alive, not shorten their lifespans!!!

The earth, when Noah and his family came out of that ark, wasn't lush and full like the Garden of Eden.  And they needed nurishment.  Food was limited for a time.  And besides, the earth DID become lush and full again.  Why didn't God ban eating animals once that happened?  It's because the permission to eat animals had nothing to do with keeping man from evil.

In my own humble opinion, lifespans were shortened, as there was no more canapy as described in Genesis 1 and the earth took in more UV rays which we know produces free radicals in the body which we know causes the aging/decay process in people.

If eating meat shortened the lifespan, then we would have concrete proof over the centuries that vegans were healthier and lived MUCH longer than carnivores.  We don't have that evidence.

Finally, the lifespan of a person has nothng to do with the progression of evil in the world.  Be ye 24 or be ye 125 - sinners are sinners.

I think it is the rest (comfort) spoken (prophesied) here.

Gen 5:28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:
29  And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. {Noah: Gr. Noe: that is Rest, or, Comfort }
 Until Noah, the ground was cursed, with thorns and thistles. This was so prolific that Adam had sweat on his brow All the days of his life just to eat from it. It became so difficult just to eat from the ground that there was no rest (sabbath) from it.

Not only was Noah able to eat from the ground easily, it produced in abundance thus the story of him drinking wine to drunkeness. He had plenty to let it ferment. God furthermore gave to Noah additional food, to further ease of food sources. Which sources also helped in the maintenance of the ground. Both in plowing, treading out grain, keeping down unwanted growth. Just my thoughts.

But it had to do with rest from the cursed ground until that time.

I read the whole article and didn't see anything about a plant-based diet making people live longer.

The synopsis was at the end  of the article.  They attribute the longer life span to:

• eating less 
• incorporating more fruits and vegetables [not eliminating animals  products]
• choosing healthier fats [those can and do include some animal products including omega-3 fatty fish]
• being more active throughout your whole life
• having a positive attitude about aging

This article did not claim vegans live longer than carnivores.

If I may…  It was because of the fallen angels that God shortened the lifespan of man.

Many fallen angels were taking flesh women (Daughters of Adam) to wife and having children with them.  These children were abominations to God.  This is the reason for the flood of Noah—to destroy their offspring which produced giant beings (called Nephilim).

Genesis 6:1-4

6 Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.

3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Well, perhaps I should have said more...sorry....Loma Linda, CA is an SDA HUB....tons of PLANT BASED DIET people there.

But I am not SDA and I do not believe the Bible tells us we can not eat meat.
