Let's consider a wee experiment. Make believe for a while that you are a new convert to Christ and you have no knowledge of various positions on eschatology. You are literate and pay attention to what you read--especially the bible, because you have come to understand it is God's word for us. You are hungry to learn and to understand. After a while you got around to reading Revelation.

What would you naturally conclude when you took notice of these verses in your reading. These verses included among all of the symbolism that makes your head spin? Remember, you have not been indoctrinated. Perhaps you are Chinese or a Muslim or a farmers child from Nebraska.

You have not yet asked your new pastor to explain.

:-)

Rev. 1:1 (ESVS)  The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,

Rev. 1:3 (ESVS) Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

In verse 1:3 it says about a blessing on the one who reads allowed the words of this prophecy, and bless are those who hear, so the blessing for reading aloud the words of this prophecy is for others to hear, not to conceal and destroy the prophecy, perhaps thinking it is not from God or another way it is that it is not for us.

It said blessed are those who hear and who keep what it is written in it.

So this is for everyone, it was not only for them but for everyone there after.

And it says for the time is near.

If I am babysitting and I have to stop reading any further while I am attending the baby I will be thinking.

I heard about a blessing upon those who hear and who keep what it is written but we are not told yet what it is written we cannot keep what it is written yet because we have not heard what it written.

So it appeals to the listener that he has to expect to hear the things that he has to keep.

So I have to go back expecting to read about the things I will be asked to keep.

So this applies to everyone who reads this, or hears these things.

So far there are no exceptions.

And it prompts the listener not to keep the what is about to be revealed without delay, because the time is near.

Ch.1 v.4,5,6

4. To the seven churches(I) in the province of Asia:

Grace and peace to you(J) from him who is, and who was, and who is to come,(K) and from the seven spirits[a](L) before his throne,

5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness,(M) the firstborn from the dead,(N) and the ruler of the kings of the earth.(O)

To him who loves us(P) and has freed us from our sins by his blood,(Q)

6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests(R) to serve his God and Father(S)—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

***v.4 begins, to the seven churches in the province of Asia.

Finaly we get something to help us understand as to why God did not revealed the Revelation to Jesus Christ from the very beginning or some time earlier.

He had to wait to have those seven churches in the province of Asia, because the message begins to the seven churches. When those churches were organized and were factioning that was the time for the words spoken in v.4,5,6.

****THESE are the words to speak aloud and proclaim them to others, and we are asked to keep.

@Alive, why you left those words in v.4,5,6, out, these are the words we are asked to keep and proclaim them to others.

Rev. 1:3 (ESVS) Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near

That John expected it to happen in his lifetime, maybe begin the next day.

If I was reading REV the 2nd  and 3rd century, I myself would be looking to see  the beginning of sorrows at least

By the 4th century, I would be thinking I didn't understand what 'soon' meant to GOD.

By the 5th I would be looking to try and find something that would  explain why it didn't take place 'soon' as we knew soon to be.

From what I understand,  from what some here at Worthy have said,  is prophecy wasn't even studied up until the last 100 plus years anyhow.

As I think on it today, I 'think' IF 2000 YEARS constitutes SOON,  how many million years did it take to get to these last days that last 2000 years?

The last days or end times have been around for WHAT SEEMS like a really long time to us.   So the question is,  IF 2000 years is SOON, how many 'years' are we talking about. In the span of say, a million years, would something within 2000 years be  considered  soon?

AND WHAT ARE THESE THE 'LAST DAYS' OF EXACTLY?

Oh MY WORD.  I think I read a reply or two,  and decided this is one of those threads  where I should ANSWER first, then start at the beginning.

I was much amazed and a bit saddened.  I'm pretty sure you shelved the experiment,  but am curious to know what it was about.  Very illuminating.

OK, this is a dynamic, and great question, and this is how after 30 years (7 years ago) I started getting all my answers answered, I simply forgot ALL I KNEW (Because in Prayer when I asked God why the Church was so confused I got this "Ron, you guys already know it all" LOL) and started over, so this is a very, very important point you are making, most can't answer because they never tried to get this clarified, I did and got an answer. But let me carry out the hypothetical first.

I would have read all the rest of the bible by that time, and thus I would know I needed to check the translation/original meaning(s) of the word and do deep deep into its root words (which is what I did and STARTED DOING on all things contradictory).

I would know by now that words have ways of morphing, or being mistranslated, like unto Falling Away, which really means Departure or like the 2300 days which is really 1150 days, because each day has a Morning and Evening Sacrifice/Oblation etc. etc.

And thus I would do what I have only in the last 7 years learned tp do, STUDY HARD to show myself approved of God like Paul tells us to do, leaving no stone unturned. That will always lead us unto the TRUTHS of God !! So, instead of supposing or clinging to old understandings I went about solving a "seeming contradiction" and I of course found the answer because God never contradicts Himself, we just misunderstand His word in some compacity.

So off I went in my DEEP DIVE........I used my Greek online study guide where the Bible has a link to ever Greek word and its definition and root words. Words like gay morph, wd have to understand its INTENDED MEANING at the time. By the way, the word SOON, is a part of this morphing, it was SHORTLY in the KJV. Old English plays a part in this because Shortly doesn't mean soon as many suppose in the Old English per se. I will let my study be my proofs however.

Revealtion 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Now I will paste my Greek word linked Original 1611 KJV bible

The Reuelation 602 of Iesus 2424 Christ, 5547 which 3739 God 2316 gaue 1325 z5656 vnto him, 846 to shewe 1166 z5658 vnto his y846 x848 seruants 1401 things which 3739 must 1163 z5748 shortly 1722 5034 come to passe; 1096 z5635 and 2532 he sent 649 z5660 and signified 4591 z5656 [it] by 1223 his y846 x848 Angel 32 vnto his y846 x848 seruant 1401 Iohn, 2491

Blessed 3107 is hee that readeth, 314 z5723 and 2532 they that heare 191 z5723 the x3588 words 3056 of this prophesie, 4394 and 2532 keepe 5083 z5723 those things which are written 1125 z5772 therein: 1722 846 for 1063 the x3588 time 2540 is at hand. 1451.

Lets delve into 1722 and 5034,since SHORTLY has two words behind it, just like DAY did in Daniel 8 where one word was Evening and the other meant Morning, so it was 2300 Evening and Morning Sacrifices being taken which equal 1150 days not 2300 days.

Word Study "EN"

#1722 ἐν en {en}

a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time
    or state),
and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or
constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between
    G1519 and G1537); TDNT - 2:537,233; prep
Greek Word Study (Transliteration-Pronunciation Etymology & Grammar)

A primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), that is, a relation of rest (intermediate between G1519 and G1537); "in", at, (up-) on, by, etc.:—about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-) by (+ all means), for (. . . sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-) in (-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-) on, [open-] ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, [speedi-] ly,
Strong's (Greek Dictionary of the New Testament)
#1722.

So this primary preposition is showing us how Jesus will return, but we must remember, only the Father knows when this will happen. Thus en is a being used as a primary preposition here.

WORD STUDY "TACHOS"

  #5034 τάχος tachos {takh'-os}

 from the same as G5036; TDNT - n/a; n n
—Greek Word Study (Transliteration-Pronunciation Etymology & Grammar)

 1) quickness, speed
Thayer's (New Testament Greek-English Lexicon)

From the same as G5036; a brief space (of time), that is, (with G1722 prefixed) in haste:— + quickly, + shortly, + speedily.
—Strong's (Greek Dictionary of the New Testament)

Notice they all mean the same thing except SHORTLY (which in the Old English mean the same thing also. It mean in a SHORT BURST OF TIME, just like a Brief Space of Time, or Quickly, or In Haste, or Speedily, because guess where we get our English word Tachometer from? That's right, we get it from the Greek word TACHOS. So, Zoom, zoom, zoom is what SHORTLY (TACHOS) really means.

So, when Jesus is sent, he will come SHORTLY (In a short speed burst) or SPEEDILY, or IN HASTE, or QUICKLY, or in a Brief space of time as in Zoom, zoom, zoom. It never meant he was coming back SHORTLY as in SOON. This is why we all get off tracked, we have to study the bible vey very hard because it was not written in English, BUT.......We have modern day computers which will do the work for us. We have to be very thorough in our approach. Which is why I loved the question, the CHALLENGE so to speak, you are 100 percent right, we have to answer these questions, so that way we can with confidence explain the bible unto the lost in vivid detail, we can't guess, or be at a loss of words, Amen.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
