One of my buds the other day commented when asked how to be "filled with the Spirit" we should pray and read the word.

I have heard this numerous times and have always thought it was the main way to strong faith, so I was in agreement.

Would anyone care to add to these thoughts?

Happy New Year, Starise! I agree with your bud. :)

To be filled with the Holy Spirit, we really need to pray and read His Word.  It is the Holy Spirit that teaches us and instructs us as we read and study His Word.

"And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

- John 14:16-18

"However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. "He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

- John 16:13-14

Ahh, the holy Trinity, how I love thee. A28D719B-2B44-4F1F-B8F2-05445E1E53C3.gif.4cebdd14c45622feef7ec2de80aa7c35.gif

Not to poke the nest here too much, but why do you suppose there are often differing opinions of believers who both studied and prayed?:whistling:

As long as we are in the “ True Vine” our roots will grow deep.

Ephesians 3:17-19

Living Bible

17 And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; 18-19 and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God himself.

I love the way this is worded in the Living Bible. Thanks for sharing!

As in all things, most important is have a solid foundation in the essentials. Far too many, for many reasons, are dealing with either meat or controversy before being well grounded. You see this, when folks are all over the place with conflicting thoughts expressed.

Eph. 5:18-20 (Webster)

18 And be not drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
  19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
  20 Giving thanks always for all things to God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Also vitally important, is to have a heart that wants to please God, rather than man.

P.S.  I'm reminded of a time when I prayed earnestly about whether or not to start going to a particular congregation.  The answer I received (although not in audible words, more of an intuitive awareness) was, "No: they are nice but not holy.".

Filled with the Spirit. This is often taken in different ways. Do you mind sharing when and how you remember being filled with the Spirit?

Most of my protestant brethren will say they were filled with the Spirit at salvation.

Praising his name in prayer and song. The more you show God love the more you are filled with the holy spirit.

To add to those thoughts.

                                              Faith is not passive, it is active, we don't sit on our backsides thinking ' holy ' thoughts but live a life worthy of Jesus.

Paul uses two active examples of Christian living, that ofthe professional roman soldier and of the athlete qualified to compete in the games.

We are to be as well qualified as Christians, in how we live, love and serve as those examples.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
