So the term tribulation is used here in a different context from that of Matthew 24.21, IMHO.

I don't think so. In chapter 24 when did Jesus say great tribulation would begin  and be specific.

It's a rather specific and unique, future event: "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." (Matthew 24.21)

Yes, at least the Spirit guided you to end times passages.  I fear for so-called Christians who whistle a tune and go on in life like everything is normal (and the same for their church).  It is not. We should all be aware of end time situations.

Matthew 24:21-22, NRSVue (an excellent modern translation), "Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. For at that time there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. And if those days had not been cut short, no one would be saved, but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short."

Clearly this refers to an event in the future.

Read Matt 24:15 and being specific tell me again when did Jesus say Great tribulation would begin.

I think what our brother @farouk  means is;
The Temple is the center of Judaism
The disciples were concerned about the center of the Law
The preaching of the Kingdom concerns Jews who are dispersed in all nations
Jerusalem is the center of Israel
Judea is the immediate Israeli territory to Jerusalem
The Sabbath is part of the Law of Moses
Daniel was a Jewish prophet
Daniel prophesied concerning the Jewish people
The Abomination of Desolation concerns "Daniel's people"
Jesus breaks cloud over Mount Olives
It was Jewry that "pierced" Jesus
Jesus sends angels to collect those dispersed to the "four winds" - Israel

I guess you could say that Matthew 24:1-31 concerns Israel.

And I agree with you. These verses are for us too. The Abomination of Desolation needs a Temple in Jerusalem. If you are around when they start to build it, well ...
