14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

I have always considered this to refer to the New Jerusalem, our eternal dwelling place on earth. With further study and exchanging thoughts with some experts, I am unsure now, and I now suspect it could allude to our heavenly (glorified) bodies. What are your thoughts?

The following are some condensed commentary:

What I was after in my original reply was that there might be some other line of thinking in regards to the "room" that Jesus mentions in John 14:1-3. Too often we get stuck on the KJV or NKJV translation "mansions." That really is a poor translation for our contemporary audience. If we skip the KJV and go straight to the Greek, we see that the word is "dwelling places."

I brought up 2 Cor 5 because Paul is discussing his new glorified body or "dwelling places" (not made with hands which is eternal in the heavens). Paul was alive at the time, but was talking about his new glorified body (building) already existing in the heavens!

We might ask, "What do you mean, Paul? How is your new eternal body existing right now in the heavens?" I think the answer would be when Jesus said He was going to prepare a "dwelling for us" (John 14:2-3), He was really referencing not a mansion, but He was going to heaven to prepare our NEW BODIES for us so that when He returns at the rapture/resurrection, we will get those new bodies in which we will dwell and live forever.

We can show this further because 2 Cor 5:1-2 is showing a contrast between our earthly tent (current weak body) and the new building (eternal) .... where? In the heavens! Something to at least ponder. :)

Blessings to you!

I go to prepare a place for you: Love prepares a welcome. With love, expectant parents prepare a room for the baby. With love, the hostess prepares for her guests. Jesus prepares a place for His people because He loves them and is confident of their arrival.[ii]

I don't see anything unclear about where Jesus was going, He told us:

John 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more...

14:2 In my Father’s house are many are many abodes...

Jesus is just saying that He is going to heaven, the place of His Father, where He will prepare a place for us.

Hi @WilliamL My wife and I went through John's Gospel together; it is striking how the purposes of Father, Son and Holy Spirit are so perfectly united.

That is what I am asking. That abode, tent, dwelling, room, mansion, place, etc. Is that the New Jerusalem, or is Jesus preparing our heavenly bodies to occupy?

As I mentioned, I had never heard this thought before. The deeper I delve into it, the more it seems plausible.

Neat post Dennis.

I honestly am not sure where (exactly) I'm headed, but wherever it is it's gonna be great. (like heaven)
The part I like best in your post is;

Let not your heart be troubled!!      That is how God started this verse.

So I'll watch and wait to see what y'all come up with. I can handle a new body and/or home.

Meanwhile, I'll
not be troubled......(Thanks brother)

Both, essentially. New Jerusalem is being prepared now in heaven, to descend to the earth when the time comes. All who die in Christ get heavenly bodies up until the return of Christ at the time of the resurrection of the dead and the rapture, when those heavenly bodies will get an upgrade to become resurrected glorious bodies like Jesus has.

Since Jesus mentioned the Father's House, then why mention mansion for where we will dwell since the Lord mentioned as building that place for us to receive us to in the Father's House?

Everything has location, whether geographical or theographical, whether temporal or eternal.

Our being located in heaven requires our placement have an association with its glory, hence the translators' choice of "mansion".

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
