I don't know if I'm misunderstanding this or not, but are you saying the witnesses being dead in the street for 3 days is not literal, but symbolic? I think the text is clear they will literally be dead for 3 days before they are resurrected again.

@TrueFollowerOfChrist I know there is a tendency to relegate to symbolism a lot of prophetic Scriptures, but if so, where does one draw the line?

I am a literalist. I don't try looking for a symbolic meaning unless a literal one makes sense. Unfortunately many Christians today symbolize everything which means their interpretation is terribly wrong and they teach false doctrines. The Bible was written literally with an intent it be understood correctly literally. Symbolizing literal passages will always give a false interpretation.

@TrueFollowerOfChrist Some things are definitely symbolic but as a broad principle I would tend to the literalist, yes.
