If you consider yourself a saved person do you still lie without repenting ( turning away from doing it) about it?

Satan is the Master of LIES.

That is how he deceives and gets us to fall in his sinful traps.

That is why Christ Calls us to examine ourselves, before communing with Him and taking the Lords super and to check and SEE if we are truly walking in His Faith=faithfulness.

One lie can lead to another and grow and fester.

Lies numb us from living in Gods Truth

And lying to ourselves is the most soul damaging as it blinds us from SEEING Gods truth. and also being truthful to our fellow brother/sister=fellowman.

For many are called, but few are chosen.

What does that mean to you in your walk with Christ Jesus?

Being called:

Many people hear the call of God coming through the preaching of Gods Word. But only the “few” will respond because they are the ones who are truly hearing. Jesus said many times, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15; Mark 4:9; Luke 8:8, 14:35). The point is that everyone has ears, but only a few are listening and responding. Not everyone who hears the gospel receives it but only the “few” who have ears to hear. The “many” hear, but there is no interest or there is outright antagonism toward God

Being chosen is an invitation to participate.

It's an offer to step into a new, life-giving relationship as well as God's work of transformation, in our own lives and others'.

The importance of Examining our own selves before God.

Its easy sometimes to SEE the shortcomings of others without taking to much notice of our very own shortcomings.

That is why Paul reminds us of this:

Matt. 7 Verses 3 to 5 [4] Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? [5] Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

God Calls us before we supper ( commune) we Him to examine our own selves to see if we are walking in His faith and if we find sin in us to ask God to forgive us and remove that sin from us and to show us through the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God working in us how to overcome that particular sin..

-------------------------------------------------------

" Titus 1:16 says that some people "profess that they know God, but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate." A person's profession of Christ means nothing apart from obedience and holiness. Some people believe you can come to Jesus Christ without a consequent change in life-style. But God expects a transformation. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." First John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Being righteous doesn't mean you never sin; it means you confess your sin to the Lord, repent of it ( turn away from it), and despise it. First John 2:3 says, "By this we do know that we know Him, if we keep his commandments." In John 14:15 Christ said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." First John 2:9 says, "He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now."

----------------------------------------------------==--

Self-examination

The term “examine” (KJV, ESV) or “try” (ASV) is from the Greek peirazo (found thirty-eight times in the New Testament), which can convey several senses depending upon the context—not the least of which is the idea of endeavoring to discover the nature or quality of something by testing it (Danker et al. 2000, 792). For instance, the early Christians were subjected to a fiery trial to test their authenticity (1 Pet. 4:12).

In this Corinthian text, the term is a present tense form, suggesting sustained examination.

In order for a spiritual examination to be effective, it must be characterized by certain qualities, none of which may be lacking. These are elements every conscientious person should constantly pursue and cultivate.

------------------------------------------------=-=--

Personal Examination

Human beings are professional critics of others. We analyze, criticize, stigmatize, and ostracize. While there is a place for “righteous judgment” (Jn. 7:24), critical examination should began in the mirror.

In the Greek Testament the term “yourselves” leads the sentence for emphasis. One will never be able to remove the splinter from another’s eye until self-surgery extracts the log from his own (Mt. 7:3-5). There first must be personal scrutiny. Until that is achieved, one can go no further.

Jesus told a parable of two Jews who went to the temple to pray (Lk. 18:9ff). The one, a Pharisee (the strictest sect of Judaism — Acts 26:5), congratulated himself that he stood elevated above others. He cataloged his alleged virtues and drew a sharp line between himself and “this publican” (the phrase drips with disdain) who likewise had entered the environs of the temple.

In glaring contrast, the publican (a Hebrew tax collector on behalf of Rome, thus a despised person) humbly stood “afar off” from the sacred precinct. He would not even lift up his eyes, so conscious was he of his own spiritual flaws. Rather, he “beat his breast” in contrition, and solicited the Lord’s merciful propitiation .

He was a model of self-examination. Those who would please their Creator must be courageous enough to examine themselves and take careful notes.

-------------------------------------------------------

An Honest Heart

Once one is sufficiently candid to initiate a self-analysis, he must be able to honestly evaluate and acknowledge what he discovers. This demands integrity (Psa. 26:1).

In his parable of the sower, the Lord spoke of the “good” soil that was wonderfully productive. He explained the metaphor as the “heart” (mental disposition) that is “honest and good” (Lk. 8:15).

If a Christian desires God’s approval, he must have that level of integrity that operates on the premise: “I long to obey the Lord so passionately that I am willing to make any sacrifice to do so.” That is the ideal, however short of it we may fall.

As the Jews steadily resisted believing that Jesus was their Messiah (cf. Jn. 12:37), they had begun already to form murderous plans, claiming he was leading the people astray (Jn. 7:1, 12). Nonetheless, they marveled at his teaching brilliance because he was not a formally trained rabbi (Jn. 7:15).

The solution to that puzzle, he contended, was that his teaching was not strictly human. Rather, it was from God (Jn 7:16). Then he provided the key to faithful discipleship:

“If any man wills to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or whether I speak from myself” (Jn. 7:17).

The sense is this: “You must take care to preserve an honest mind and cultivate a heart that yields itself unquestioningly to God’s truth” .

Being willing to surrender to Heaven’s will is absolutely requisite.

In his second letter to the church in Thessalonica, Paul condemns those who “love not the truth” (2 Thes. 2:10). When one begins to meander through divine revelation, consciously sifting out those things unpleasant, difficult, or unpopular, he has not exhibited the type of integrity necessary to be approved of God.

----------------------------------------------------

The Objective Standard

The examination process involves some standard of truth by which one’s conduct is measured. From the nature of the case, how can one examine himself concerning whether he is “in the faith” if there is no objective standard by which his life is to be gauged?

The criterion certainly is not his own conscience (valuable as that instrument is), for there always is a human tendency to measure oneself by himself, and such reflects a serious lack of understanding (2 Cor. 10:12; cf. Prov. 16:2). Much less even do the fickle inclinations of a reckless society constitute the proper guidelines for right living (Ex. 23:2).

Due diligence recognizes that divine approval comes only by conforming to Holy Scripture:

“Give diligence to present yourself approved unto God, a workman who needs not to be ashamed, holding a straight course in the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15).

Subsequently the apostle will sharpen this proposition:

“Every scripture is inspired of God, and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness; that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

------------------------------------------------

The Goal of Examination

Introspection, to be valid, must involve purpose. There scarcely is any profit in self-analysis, even honestly engaged and measured by divine truth, unless one purposes to mold his life to the mind of Christ (Phil. 2:5). There is a vast gulf between the theoretical and reality.

The Christian’s goal is to refrain from being “fashioned according to this world.” To the contrary, he aims to be “transformed” by the renewing of his mind (Rom. 12:1-2). This does not occur by means of some supernatural “zapping” of the Holy Spirit, but by diligent, daily application of the word of God to his life, with resulting adjustments. Simply speaking, it is called repentance.

Repentance has taken a hard hit in today’s world, and such has not left the church unaffected. Biblical repentance is not the cheap thing so often seen in our society, which ranges from the curt, “Sorry!,” that oozes sarcasm, to the genuine, “I am so sorry!,” that bares its anguish.

Nor is repentance a mere regret (such as characterized Judas – Mt. 27:3). Instead, repentance is genuine contrition, accompanied by a change of state or actions (or both). Metaphorically these components are designated as “fruit” (Mt. 3:8).

On July 2, 1893, J. W. McGarvey, the celebrated Restoration leader, delivered an address in Louisville, Kentucky. It was simply titled, “Repentance.” He began this marvelous discourse by saying, “The greatest obstacle to the salvation of men is the obstinacy of the human will.”

Subsequently, he pointed out that, comparatively speaking, it is not all that difficult to persuade multitudes of the divine nature of Jesus of Nazareth. An honest consideration of the evidence is tremendously compelling. Nor is it a rigorous task to lead folks to be immersed in water for the forgiveness of their sins, once they are convinced they are lost and without the hope of eternal life apart from obedience to Christ (2 Thes. 1:8-9; Heb. 5:9; 1 Pet. 4:17).

McGarvey forcefully emphasized that the most difficult obstacle in the path to genuine conversion “is to induce them to repent” (emphasis original).

Men want Christianity without conversion, forgiveness without forsaking. When there is no authentic purpose behind one’s actions, he subjects himself to mere ritual without substance.

Thus to these Corinthian saints the apostle will say they must “prove” their own selves if they would have Jesus Christ resident within them. Otherwise, they are reprobate, i.e., they have proved themselves disingenuous .

You say that not lying can be done as well as an atheist as it can be  as a Christian, maybe even easier.

Really?

So then why do we need to be a christian?  if by what you say, we can overcome the sin of Lying, lying to ourselves without Gods help just like any unbeliver can.

I know this was asked of someone else, but I'll gladly answer.

@Neighbor is correct. We do not possess a monopoly on the truth. Anyone can be truthful --- reality bears witness to that --- but not a single one of us can claim that we have never lied.

I marvel at some who believe that one must be a Christian in order to speak the truth. Long before the Lord called me, I had been lied to constantly by those who were supposed to love and care for me. On account of this I hated lies fiercely, desiring only the truth regardless of how hard or harsh it might be. Of course, being only a child (and later, an adult) I was far from perfect, so I cannot declare that I never uttered a lie.

Much of that has to do with being flawed, operationally blind, and frightened at times. What's the difference between then and now?

The Lord convicts us if we stumble. However, not all pay heed to the Spirit, choosing to ignore Him instead. There are many Christians who were lying while they accused others of lying. The list is extensive.

I understand @TheBlade's post. The OP seems accusatory, as if the OP has never uttered a lie themselves, though I'm not in the habit of taking offense at religious conventions. It's rather typical to be sure. I ignore it.

The question is not "Do you lie or not?" but rather, do you heed the voice of the Spirit? When the Lord convicts you, do you respond to Him? I should think so. Be wary of pointing fingers at others unless you find yourself guilty.

If anyone reads carefully my posts they can understand that I am not pointing the finger at anyone in particular( as I myself stated I too am no different in being guilty of sin) but trying to bring attention to the  IMPORTANCE biblical importance of SELF examining our OWN conscience before  Christ Jesus .

I try to remember Jer.17: 9-10 and apply The Sermon On The Mount knowing what Jer. 17:9-10 means to my view of myself applying Mat. 5,6 and 7.

Only by God's Holy Spirit and Jesus the vine, can anyone progress in Christianity.

Seriously: As for myself, I answered a question asked, and saw no need to engage further as I tend to credit all as having the wits to be able to  decide for themselves the merits of  most any subject raised, questioned,  or responded to on WCF.

I certainly didn't read all the replies, seems I just get so easily distracted when reading these days

There's a couple of Topics that seem to be in the OP ,one specifically about being deceitful, lying which I'd say is not something a Born Again Christian would do because Jesus Abides in him and He is TRUTH- but thsts not so as we know because we all, being flesh and spirit both do struggle between the two when not walking in Spirit and in Truth- who then does not? The only ONE I Know never struggled with His Flesh is the Word Made Flesh- we strive towards Perfection but none are perfect

Is it okay to lie,no not ever- do Christians lie yet are Saved still.... Well,I'm pretty sure they do lie like when they might say- "Sorry I am late for work,I overslept" when they didn't oversleep, they were yapping on the phone and dilly dallied in getting to work on time but for some reason made the decision not to tell the truth .... might seem very trivial but a lie is a lie and the Christian would surely know that and I Believe it does not sit well with a Believer but " Lake of Fire"? I do think thats another Topic,I'd not think the Believer thst just told his boss he overslept and didn't sleep all night becsuse he lied is going to the Lake of Fire -The Precious Blood of the Lamb Has Made Him Worthy- I don't think the " Flesh " is made Worthy or it would not die,rot and decay- the mind and body are Flesh

Then there's the Topic of our Partaking of Jesus Work on the Cross-the Body and the Blood in Remembrance of Christ Jesus ...Daily dying to oneself ,isn't it?Yes,as our Sister mentioned it is a time to reflect with a repentant heart but that is not what cleanses us of sin,our sins ARE cleansed or we'd not be Worthy to Partake

Jesus Spoke those Words to His Apostles before He Went to the cross, telling them what in fact His Finished Work Would Accomplish and that it is His Body and His Blood that they be Free Indeed.... that is WHO they Came to Believe and would become Fully Committed to after His Return in the Upper Room....( Good study Book of John - 2:24 and Matt 28:17,Matt 14:31)

I suppose my point is - "what do we Believe" or "Who do we Believe"

Lying is never okay, neither is adultery, stealing, murder or any other sin - if someone lies to us or to anyone and they still struggle with their flesh, continuing in sin  then they need renew their mind to live as the New Creature in Christ that they are- this comes from Relationship with God in Christ---its GROWTH. I Believe one could be Born Again and remain a baby or adolescent without food, nutrition, and Guidance.... might be Saved but not Living a Life More Abundant .... and I could be wrong, perhaps they were never Saved in the first place

I don't usually get into discussions like this because Holy Spirit Reveals- I Believe my own Assignment is leading the horse to the water, can't make him drink❤️

First, I like to say ( because some of you may not have read the full thread), that I brought this topic up to bring awareness not only for the reader but to me as well.

I am also learning by participating in Worthy discussion.

The Holy Spirit of God can also reveal Himself through Worthy discussion

God gives us all an opportunity to right the wrong.

God loved the world so much ( God love you, me equally so much) that He gave His only begotten Son Christ Jesus to pay the full penalty that is required to right the original wrong from the garden of Eden.

The opportunity to take  Gods opportunity to be FREE  is FREE  for us ALL All of us are free to take or not take in choosing to beleive/have faith in HIM Christ Jesus to FREE us from the bondages of sin of living less and less in the flesh  and more and more in His Holy Spirit .

The only requirement is that we choose to BELIEVE/HAVE faith in Him and His Word and be willing to follow Him and His Word and have a daily ongoing relationhip with Him, through daily dying to our sin, old nature and taking on His cross, new nature on a daily basis,

Yes many are called because God so lived the world

But not all take,( not all are chosen) because to take requires from us to be wiling to die to the old self daily=die to the cross, daily .

God knows we battle daily with our sin nature=flesh nature wanting to squash our spirit nature,  so by having a daily relationship with Him, God gives us the opportunity to live more in the Spirit, His Holy Spirit by repenting daily for our sins that we may have committed that day, so to live more and more in His spirit and through this process, live less and less in our flesh nature.

This requires from us with the help the the Holy Spirit of God, to examine ourselve to SEE if we are truly walking the walk of belief/FAith =faithfullness to God and His Word.

If we are truly walking with God, we don't remain babies=living more in the flesh, we grow=living more in His spirit

To grow, Gods Word says: requires SELF EXAMINATION

Christ Jesus showed us how to pray, commune with Him:

To ask Father God to give us our DAILY BREAD

examine ourselves before we partake of the Lords super to make sure we  have confessed of our sins to Him are cleansed from our iniquities.

Why? Gods Word says because of this:

1 Corinthians ch11

2But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

3For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
