Some years ago, I was in a music shop probably shopping for some Hank Williams, Sr. stuff (huge Hank fan!) and heard the most gosh-awful stuff playing I'd ever heard! It was definetely metal and, to me, there was something about it that made me cringe and there was not a good "feel" to this song if I might say so. Upon closer listen, it turned out to be Stryper's "To Hell With the Devil"! Totally awful stuff IMHO!

I'm not against anything that praises my Lord, but too many "Christian" artists have put out releases that are supposedly Christian and you can't hear one reference to God or Jesus. My favorite case in point is an older example now, but I was and still am a fan of Amy Grant's CCM music. I rushed to my local Christian bookstore to buy her then newest cassette "Heart In Motion" which was on a Christian label in a Christian bookstore. Not a Christian release-no mention of God or Jesus or anything dealing with church. Not a bad cassette by any stretch of the imagination, but not a good CD.

I personally have been blasted for my love of country gospel by the likes of Hank Williams, Sr. The reference always gets made to how country music is beer joint music and how could you be listening to a guy who sang in the honky-tonks do a gospel number sorta thing. Personally, all you have to do is look at the words of "I Saw The Light" and that song carries a punch to it IMO. I also find it interesting that the Gaither Vocal Band covered Hank's "A House of Gold" a few years back. Sure, Hank wasn't the role model I'd like to emulate, but if you ever have the opportunity to listen to Hank's live recordings of gospel music, you can FEEL it in his voice that he believed what he was singing. Was he a Christian? I think at one point he was, I can't speak for what spiritual shape he was in at death, but I hope he's around God's throne singing "I Saw The Light". Also of interest is that Hank's first recording that was released was a GOSPEL number backed with a secular number, but the gospel song was the "A" side of the record!

I really can't go for Southern Gospel, though I do have some exceptions. Southern Gospel, at least what I hear on the local station, is really rather bland and some of it can send you right on to sleep! Now if we're talking Carroll Roberson, The Freemans, The (Original) Hinsons, Happy Goodmans, Dixie Echoes, Lewis Family, Blackwood Brothers-brother or sister, bring it on! I love the classic Southern Gospel groups and there a few like THe Freemans carrying on the tradition. I also love Carroll Roberson as he is Southern, but has just enough of that country touch to make him good.

In closing, metal gospel isn't for me nor is most of what is coming out in CCM today. I do like some of the Worship music, but my heart is still with country gospel by the old country artists and old gospel groups!

Oh, did I mention I like Mahalia Jackson? (and I'm a 29 year old white guy!)

Someone back on the first page praised P.O.D for being at Ozzfest.

While I have no problem with Christian metal, I think I may have a problem with any Christian being at Ozzfest. That is an atmosphere that is so thick with demonic activity that you can almost see it and it is almost palpable. While I understand the need for Christians to go out into the world to reach the masses, I believe some things should be a clear NO, and a stand must be taken. I also believe willingly entering in a demonic atmosphere, where satan is openly praised and sought out, will open one up to demonic activity in their own life. Not possession, but demons can harrass us even though they can not possess us.

*************************

*WARNING! THE FOLLOWING IS GRAPHIC*-

My girlfriend (not a Christian) just took her family to Ozzfest in a nearby state. Marilyn Manson had a girl on stage with him. He inserted his microphone into her butt crack, (she was naked) crouched down and sang his song from there. All facing the audience.

*************************

There are some things that Christians have no business being at. There are many opportunities to witness. I doubt God is calling anyone to go into such filth and expose themselves to what He has forbidden.

I have to agree with Work In Progress. The thought of any Christian group going to Ozz-fest would be the same, though maybe less blatantly demonic, as the Happy Goodmans going to a honky-tonk to play! I'm reminded, though, of an interesting story. Back, probably in the mid-late 50's, a very good friend of mine who is an assistant pastor at a former church, had to go into the honky-tonk to find his brother. He said he got in there and on the jukebox was "How Can You Refuse Him Now" (a very moving gospel song) by Hank Williams, Sr.! Talk about preaching the word right under the devil's nose!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
