I still think you need to read the Word of God and develop your opinion based on what God thinks, Mike. Get yourself a good, english translation and go to it! Get an New International Version or a New King James Version. Read all about these matters in there, as God will show you the truth! Then you can pass it on to others! That's the idea.

QUOTE(Ask An Atheist @ Oct 9 2006, 06:21 AM)

I've got a question to the previous poster. You keep on saying "G-d", instead of "God". Is this because you don't want to take your lord's name in vain?

(Pizzaguy) I suspect you are right - so does that mean that my pastor shouldn't say "God"?

Can I say His name in conversation? (Afterall - THIS is a conversation.)

I hope he/she comes back and answers.

It is simply that I have Messianic and Orthodox Jewish friends who out of reverence to our Heavenly Father do not want to mention His name in vain....I have got in the habit for 10 years and rather than vacillating between the two, I found it easier to stick to this tradition. Neither way offends me at all...but some Gentiles find using G-d or L-rd, a bit quirky or pretentious, but I can live with that. In conversation, particularly with Orthodox Jews I prefer to call G-d 'HaShem', which literally means 'The Name', implying the Name that is above all names, that way you don't even get close to touching on the potential of offense, and it is something they are familiar with.

When I first went to a Messianic congregation 12 years ago, a song came up on the overhead screen and our pastor leant over to me and said, 'mate, they've been using a dodgy type-writer!'

By the way I am a 'he'.

1. ok heres the big stumper a freind told me once . : ok can god do anything ? of corse right , well if he can do anything can he make a rock he cant lift ? if he cant make it he cant do everything if he cant lift it he cant so it is close to impossibal for our god to be perfect.

Hey mike A. How about this: Can God actualize a contradiction? Or, Can God make something impossible for himself and then do it?

I have to ask: Why must the "anything" include that which is logically impossible? "Anything" means everything that is possible for God to do, he can do. This is sufficient. More than sufficient. It's amazing and beyond my or anyone's comprehension.

PS. Does this thread belong in the apologetics forum?

HELLO ! my name is mike and i am by NO MEANS QUESTIONING CHRIST i just have a few questions

OPENLY CURIOUS

Hello Mike it seems you have a liberal God hater on your hands who wants nothing to do with the God he knows really exist so he tries to explain Him away in your mind. I'll try to answer your questions one by one.

MIKE

1. ok heres the big stumper a freind told me once . : ok can god do anything ? of corse right , well if he can do anything can he make a rock he cant lift ? if he cant make it he cant do everything if he cant lift it he cant so it is close to impossibal for our god to be perfect.

OPENLY CURIOUS

Truth is God can do anything and not only can God create a rock but he can lift everything he has made not only a big huge rock. Think about the vastness of this for a moment. Everything you see in this world we live in and you know how big that is then think about all the mountains the oceans the dirt of the earth the trees the animals all the plant life marine life the birds of the air the stars and all that is up their and all the people of the planet. Now think about this which is true God took all of that by his very hand and hung the earth out on the axis which is to big for our finite mind to even fantom but he took the earth with all that is within and hung it out in space to float there. I think God can pick up about anything if he can do that all by himself without any help at all. the earth in it's entirety is heavier than any single rock that might be in the mind of your friend. don't you think don't let your friend deminish our God down to mere weakness we serve a mighty big God. Thing is God can make anything doesn't mean he wants to. Everything God has made is perfect and their are no flaws in our God and your friend will find that out one day I hope on the right side of life.

MIKE

2. Why do you belive in jesus ? because the bibal says so ! right ? why do you belive the bibal.... because the bibal says so. thats the best respons i could come up with

OPENLY CURIOUS

I believe in Jesus just as the apostle Peter did as I believe that he was sent from God that He is indeed the Son of the living God. I believe the message and that He came into this world and died on a cross for my sins personally so that I could be save through faith by grace. I believe Jesus is indeed who He said He was not just because the Bible says so although that is a good reason to. I believe the bible to be the word of the living God in whom sent his only begotten Son into this world to seek and save the lost because I believe by faith from my heart unto righteousness and with my mouth I make confession unto salvation. I witness that Jesus Christ is indeed come in the flesh.

3. well i dont really see whats so wrong with homosexuallity, im perefecly streight but the only place that it says homosexuallity is wrong is also in the place where it says we shouldnt eat shrimp , women shouldnt have power and also we shoudlnt were mixed clothing (eg. linen and cotten) those things are outdated. so why shoudlnt homophobicy be ?

OPENLY CURIOUS

Doesn't matter what one thinks about homosexuality what matters is God says it is wrong maybe one don't like what God says and they don't but doesn't make it right cause they don't agree with God for God is truth and not the words of man. The New Testament addresses this issue if great depth in fact in Romans chapter one and two. I am against the sin of homosexuality that does not make one a homophobe I am against the sin of theft and fornication and adultery rape murder and so on don't make me a phobic of any kind because I do agree with God. Maybe you should point out to your friend perhaps he is a "God A Phobe" seeing he is afraid of the word of God.

MIKE

4. the verus in the bibal where it says we will go to heven it never sepcifies that you have to belive in christ and god he says he exepts all. so i belive their is no hell . earth is hell .... and bush is saiten right ? ook ill shut up now...

OPENLY CURIOUS

Again your friends ignorance is bliss in that He know nothing of the God in which he speaks out against and belittle's. He is in for a big surprise if he thinks this earth is hell. and bush is Satan. All will not go to heaven you will find this in Roman chapter 10 but only those who call on the lord Jesus Christ will be saved. Your friend needs to be worried about who Jesus is because it is Christ who will judge all so making peace with the Heavenly Father through Christ is most important than mocking things he know not of.

One of these two statments is not true. If you are presenting 4 as a question then you are questioning Christ (as Saviour)

If you are not questioning Christ then you should not have posted that 4th question.

Some mistakes in typing are not a big deal. To show such disrespect for the God of all creation and for Jesus Christ by failing to make a small effort to type capital letters is just plain tacky. (not "you're going to hell" tacky but tacky nonetheless)

well thats about it

thanks ,

P.S. sorry about the miss spellings .

This question is blind ignorance, lol lacking logic, God can do all things, be the question is why would he? Do you know what perfect is? Humanity can't grasp the concept of perfection.your asking him to do something that he cant do, by asking him to do something that will Limit himself. God will not contradict himself. Could he? yes. Would he .. no

"2. Why do you belive in jesus ? because the bibal says so ! right ? why do you belive the bibal.... because the bibal says so. thats the best respons i could come up with"

I don't believe in Jesus cause the bible Says so, people tent not to think outside of the Box, I believe in Jesus cause of the personal relationship I have in him, he himself called me, and there is more reason to believe in him than not believe in him, the bible is truth, but not the only reason for belief, the carnal mind cannot understand the spiritual mind.

3. well i dont really see whats so wrong with homosexuallity, im perefecly streight but the only place that it says homosexuallity is wrong is also in the place where it says we shouldnt eat shrimp , women shouldnt have power and also we shoudlnt were mixed clothing (eg. linen and cotten) those things are outdated. so why shoudlnt homophobicy be ?

Hmm haha you really believe that? You should read romans chap 1, seriously, it is wrong cause God made us male and female, This is one of the few sins he calls an abomination to him, NOw, to contradict how God made is to to go against life it's self, can a man and a man have a child? no neither can a woman and a woman, and honestly, if adultry, or sex before marrage is wrong, then how much more homosexuality? Though some things are culteral influence, what God says is a sin, is still a sin. The new testiment and old testiment, claim it to be wrong, Ya by saying that homosexuality is outdated, is totaly saying that Murder, child abuse all sin is outdated, cause that is somthing God is very blunt about it, and it is sin. CANNOT be justified as right. Now romans chap 1 is pretty blunt.

Romans 1:18-32

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
