Christians can believe in Bell Witch, town says

Haunted-house belief is strongest in South

The spooky 200-year-old legend of the Bell Witch lives on in Adams, Tenn., a church-going town of 600, where people say that believing in ghosts and spirits is not incompatible with being a Christian.

The spirit that some call Kate is still spotted from time to time by ghost watchers and business owners, who say they've seen her throw salad spoons and blue balls in the air

well, I can't discount the paranormal, just because I am a Christian.

Demonic activity is certainly a fact, as a reading of the bible will show.

I, myself, have seen 'ghosts' on a few occasions, though I believe firmly that they were demonic in origin, and malevolent.

I live really close, and the only reason my kids know we will not go, is because I would be rebuking it and all the people, praying in the spirit really loud and obnoxiously against it. But they keep entertaining it-they'll get what they want- demons on their little puppet strings-making their profit from demons.

Not interested-unless others want to gather in intercession against it!!

Hmm, well I was once involved with wicca, and the occult before i came to Christ, I have learned alot, don't entertain it, Ghosts, are all just demons, and they are always against God, and always will be, it's deception, dont play with it, stay away from it.

In the real historical telling of the Bell Witch, it is well known not to be a witch nor a ghost of a woman named Kate... Historically it has always been known to be a demon. And was documented as being such in family journals as well as many who went to the residence to research the occurance, including Andrew Jackson who also documented his own experiences.

One writer/film-maker who is a Christian did some very in depth research on the subject and I think he made a film about it. He was a guest on Art Bell's show several years ago and told the amazing historical documentation of this demonic manistifation.

Conversations with this demon were journaled and documented by many and there was a purpose in it, one that was quite edifying to God, one that made the writer want to share the story from a Christian perspective. There was a revealing of the spiritual world one that gave a example of why bad things happen to good people. An explanation of demon activity that some may call paranormal, psychic, ghosts, and so on. Their [the Bell family] experience when put together with all historical documentation took the 'mystery' out of the 'mysterious'. If one would take the time to know the real story they would discover that this kind of relelation is good, it removes the wonderment that attracts many to the occult or occult like activities and rips the mask right off of satan and his tricks. Ultimately it elevates God to His rightly place of being over all things.

The demon was documented as saying [paraphasing from memory] that they[demons] tremble and bow before the Lord. That they will harrass us if they are allowed to do so by God, for God's purpose. This particular demon would harrass the mother and children the most, but it is documented that he said that he respected them because they were very devout, but he/they hated those who were pius in public and evil in their hearts... Those were the ones that they wanted most. He also stated that he/they laughed and mocked those who fall for their tricks/deceptions.

As for Mr. John Bell, after his long agonizing illness and death [one that was slowly tormented by the demon, eventhough the demon seemed to attack him the least]; it was discovered in later writings/journals that John Bell had been raping his daughter in secret. In public life he was a prominent leader/member in the church.

I found this to be very interesting, because our family experienced many 'paranormal activities'/ demonic attacks. I was always trying to understand why and this real documented history of a demonic attack helped me to understand, as well as confirm things we discovered in our own experiences. Mom and I have always felt that my father was either possessed or opressed. He lives diferent pesonas, manipulates, deceives, is cruel, abusive and is surrounded by demonic activity.

During the years we were with him we experienced many horrifying things, but we had the power of the Lord to protect us, He was with us then and remains with us now. The Lord has carried us in the palm of His hand and though our own experience, I know that He will always be there, protecting, watching, guiding and blessing! He is Amazing! My earthly father is a disapointment, but my Heavenly Father is King of Kings!

Absolutely! As believers they have a duty to rout that demonic spirit, not entertain it, and allow it! They are the puppets, refusing to take authority. Pure folly, in my view.

When you have demons attack you and try to kill you, you know they are real. I used to do private duty nursing where one of the other nurses was into the paranormal and the occult. She worked the evening shift, and I would relieve her with the night shift. I would bring my Bible with me each night and read it. One night, after she left, and I laid down to rest, I dozed off but was not completely asleep. I felf a sharp object go through my back, and jumped up and saw a black shadow standing at the end of the bed. I yelled and chased the shadow out by calling on the name of Jesus, and it left. But it was a hair-raising experience and one I will never forget.

I can relate, Fully, I used to see a shadow figure every night, I chased it out int he name of Jesus. It was a scary experience, demonic stuff is nothing to mess with.
