How does one move past the fear of doing something?

Is there a way to get over it and move on?

What IF syndrome has got me holding back from loosing weight.

What IF I lose the weight and my problems still are not addressed will I go back to eating more again?

What IF I gain confidence and self-esteem how will I deal with it?

What IF I'm rejected by people IF I lose weight?

IF I give up this, will I pick up another bad habit instead of replacing with something positive?

and the list can on and on and on and on.......

Perfect love cast out all fear...

That verse in context refers to standing before the Lord in the day of judgment (1 John 4:17ff). When you are faced with irrational fears that paralyzes you from head to toe, witticisms like that do more harm than good. As one who struggles with fear constantly...meditating on the Word is what helps me the most. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Phil. 4:8)

I agree with this as I was so confused on this for a long time as it is what I kept hearing and that fear was a sin as they used this very verse and I thought I wasn't in the faith because I could never conquer my fears. Staying in the word and meditating on truth I depend on.

If you don't deal with your problems ray you can stop one habit and take up another in it's place and not even know you have done so till it's to late. I did this in my life so that's how I know it's true. I would recommend dealing with your problems while you are trying to change your habits and ways that you are wanting to change.

It sounds like your worried about the wrong people. If your in fear about loosing friends because you do or don't loose weight then it's time to change friends. God looks on the heart not on how we look.

may i suggest this, find someone who could counsel you.. someone who has an expertise regarding counseling. I mean you know we could offer you our ideas but getting some information and advise from someone who really is knowledgeable would be of great help. Or you could talk to an elder in your church, one whom you can confide to. :emot-questioned:

That is really good advise Lenin :emot-questioned: I can't exactly say that I deal much with loosing weight (probably will have to start at one point ) but there are other things that come into my life personally, that I have to deal with... it involves getting past that fear of failing. Many on here, again, know what I struggle with and I've probably said this a thousand times lol but I talked to my old youth pastor about a particular area of my life that had me so consumed that I would basically live in misery becuaes of it. Not to mention the many times I've come to the point and said, "I give up.. I can't do this...." and then to follow "What if I fail again? What if....". Those what if's will never help, and they only hurt for this.... I asked him how to get this thing of my life and he told me this:

Say you go out and buy a television and its in box. You hit that box and it is going to stay strong, it's going to hold up becuase it has that thing inside of it. However, once you take the television out of said box, and if you hit it, it will crumble underneath. The thing is, it needs to have something replaced there, whatever it may be. You can't jsut take something out, many times, without replacing it. It really does help a lot. For this case, he gave me some Christian music. I talked to a lady at church camp this past year, and she told me to find a substitute, whatever it may be, to keep me from going back to that thing... jumping jacks I have to say was the craziest one to me but lol things like reading a book or "jumping jacks" or whatever you can think of until your mind is off of it.

The key is not to worry about "failing" but trust the Lord to give you strength to get through whatever it is. A fear of failing will only cause misery becuaes you keep thinking "well, what IF..." ... well, what if it comes out all right? What if this problem goes away? What IF you overcome this through the Lord Jesus Christ? What a victory that will be! :emot-handshake: What if you didn't give up adn it worked  Ray, find something positive... make it a point to replace it with something positive, and IF you don't quite make the mark you have set, get back up a try again.. I believe that the verse "the just falls seven times and rises again" can even apply... the just man will fall numerous times, but rise again... You can't think of it as failing... but rather as just another step so IF that happens, just get back up and keep going

You can do it bro  By the way, an accountability partner is a WONDERFUL thing :24:

Love you in the Lord!

Crystal

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
