To tell you the truth, I have only done it once. I refrained from all food for a period of roughly 24hrs, only water...

Let me tell you I felt great afterwards! I plan on doing more fasting soon, it only takes a little will power. If your hungry drink some water till the hunger goes away!

Fasting is very biblicial, but a person has to be careful to do it for the Lord only --spend more time in prayer and maybe pick a day you can spend with the Lord.

The purpose of fasting and prayer is not to give us power to fulfill selfish desires and ambitions. It is not for the purpose of manipulating God. It is not to elevate our status or personal agenda. Neither should it promote false piety or legalism.

Only God knows when we fast if our heart is sincere...I believe prayer is the key--with or without fasting.

Grace to you,

I believe not only can we fast from food. But we could fast from self.

I believe truly this is the fast that the Lord desires.

Peace,

Dave

Never really thought much about this fasting from self. It sure sounds good though. Can you expound on that some.

Hi,

There are many differant types of fast spoken about in the bible and they all very in length and time. Fasting has everything to do about denying and weakening your flesh at the same time allowing the Holy Spirit to strengthen your inner man.

Jesus said that alot of things come about through prayer and fasting. Fasting is not benifical unless your using that time to seek God.

There many things that you can fast from such as:

1)Food

2)Food and Water

3)Delicate or Pleasing Foods (meats, desserts, coffee, wine, soda and all the other good stuff)

3)Sex

4)Pleasures

-TV

-Computer

-Sleep

-Golf (etc..)

-etc...

Here is a good book that I would recommend reading about fasting:

God's Chosen Fast

Greetings Pastor*Paul,

Your moniker is deceiving, can you explain that to us? Did you know that for a starving person, one might feed him from their hand to stave off starvation, but to help that person to live and not become a burden to others, one needs to teach him HOW to fish. Fishing in this case, means reading YOUR Bible, Praying, seeking the face of God. So may I suggest that you take the initiative and do these things. When people keep "helping you out" by giving you "pearls" of their hard earned wisdom, all they are doing is "enabling" you to be "dependent". That is a very sorry state for you and the giver. So now, to stave off starvation, I have provided your soul with the following food. Take and eat. And in the future, teach yourself HOW to fish.

Judges 20:26 Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

1 Samuel 7:6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

1 Samuel 31:13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

2 Samuel 1:12 And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

2 Samuel 12:16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

2 Samuel 12:21 Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.

2 Samuel 12:22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

2 Samuel 12:23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

1 Kings 21:9 And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:

1 Kings 21:28 And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

1 Kings 21:29 Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

Isaiah 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

Isaiah 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Isaiah 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.

Isaiah 58:6 is the only fast that I have ever fasted.

One of my favorite Scriptures Anne...I have most of Chapter 58 highlighted in my Bible. Proper fasting can be summed up with one word --- MOTIVE. Fasting from food and other pleasures is important but it means nothing without pure and righteous motive.

I thank for the scriptures, I thank you less, for the attitude. I did not ask if, or why, I asked what folks abstained from. As for my name, I am a preacher, starting a Church. • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
