Pakistani police detain 500 activists

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Police and soldiers emboldened by state of emergency powers swept up hundreds of activists and opposition members on Sunday, dragged away protesters shouting "Shame on you!", and turned government buildings into barbed-wire compounds.

Gen. Pervez Musharraf's government said parliamentary elections could be delayed up to a year as it tries to stamp out a growing Islamic militant threat

Of course, I am not privy to anything deeper than what we read in the news about Pakistan, but it seems to me that we simpy CANNOT let radical Moslems get their hands on the nuclear arsenal there......

So now we are forced once again to keep our relationship strong with a dictator (it never works) that is dispised by his own people! Soon, the militants will have full control of Pakistan, and our dictator friend will be dead, and we will be left with a worse mess than we started with. (I hope I am completely wrong)

The President of Pakistan can hardly be compared to some of the great dictators of the world. Since 9/11, he's really stuck his neck out and made a stand against militant islam and the terrorists that are born from the movement. He's cracking down now to keep them from taking over, which is what is going on over there.

It's truly a serious situation there right now. If the militants take over, they instantly gain a nuclear arsenal.

Oh, I agree.

The problem is we sell democracy to the world, but we partner with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. I don't want the militants to have such weapons, and as soon as they do have them, we are in a much worse situation than the Iran problem is trying to become.

After we set off two nukes at the end of WW II, the world has tried to keep a finger in the dike of nuke proliferation, but even with the best efforts, many nations have gotten nukes, including India and Pakistan, and in that we were the first to use them, we could become the first target afterward that has them used on us. (wow, I really mangled that sentence)

Oh no everyone start digging their bomb shelters

Seriously I could care less what is happening in the world around me because I know the worse it gets the closer I am to going home so I actually get excited when stuff like this happens.

Easy for you to say . . . you probably don't live near a "nuclear zone" like some of us do.

I'd much rather live in a nuclear zone so I can go quickly because if and when something like that does happen those in the area where it hits will be vaporized immediately there will be no pain and no suffering I can't think of a better way to go. The ones I feel bad for are the ones who do dig those shelters and do survive.

And yes I do happen to live in a "Nuclear Zone" as Georgia is home to most of the largest military installations in the Southeast U.S. and we all know the military targets are the ones that are gonna go first.
