I have heard of the "evil eye" and I don't believe in it. It is a form of spell casting, and G-d fearing people need not be concerned.

As for the wedding veil...never heard it had anything to do with evil eyes.

The Orthodox Tradition of Exorcising

...The demonic possession of individuals and even of objects, has been accepted by the Orthodox Church today in the Sacrament of Baptism, in exorcising satanic powers in the case of the evil eye (vaskania), and in exorcising the devil in the case of a possessed person. In the early Church exorcisms were performed by a person especially trained and appointed to pray to drive out evil from those about to be baptized. Since the fourth century the place of the exorcist, as well as other functions and ministries, have been taken over by the priest. The exorcisms are prayers that invoke God to expel evil spirits. The priest prays to expel all evil, the spirit of error, of idolatry, of covetousness, of Iying and every impure act that arises from the teachings of the devil. The renunciation of the devil in baptism is used in every baptism that is performed in the Orthodox Church.

This is in the realm of the spirit world....evil spirits at that. If a person dabbles in the occult they open themselves up to this type of thing. A Christian is covered by the Blood of Christ and we are protected.

I had always thought it was something my wife gave me when I really messed up ...

I grew up with the beilf in my family that there are a certain group of people out there who can seriously harm you by casting a hateful gaze... people from my country would not marry them because it was passed on to their kids.

..I didn't know if i belived it or not but then this year I had some reallly weird stuff happen to me. And then I read about the articles above about dehydration and headaches, a sicken feeling as if you need to voimt.. I used to get these symptoms when I was around a particular paerson and then realized it was true after all!

There also was this Russian girl who I used to work with and she told me of her experiances to when she was at a party once with her brother. Creepy! Though it does ago away with much prayer drinking water and staying away from those people. I belive the evil eye is Satan's eye personally.. I wonder if this is what GOD was talking about when he said not to covet a neighbours property or wife, etc.
