My church has functions all the time that aren't my cup of tea and yet I still go to many of them and have a great time fellowshipping with my brothers and sisters...and if I couldn't afford it...I'd say so. Problem is, most people waste more than $16 month on soda..then complain cuz they can't go to a fundraiser.

Good to be strong in the Lord. You are blessed.

And please help out a mere Australian. What is 'soda' and how might I be wasting $16 a month on it that I could give to a fund raiser?

If 'soda' is a drink, does what you say apply equally to tea or coffee?

soda... also known as pop... or cola... it's a generic term for all things coke and pepsi.

Thanks. Did not know that, just guessed it might be a fizzy drink of some sort.

In that case, I don't drink soda.

to shy christian

think of it this way if you say its getting to you have you tried to be honest i know its a hard thing but by being silent this wil keep happening how wel do you know the people how wel do you know the youth pastor if you cant say what you want to say you can write it and send the letter to your pastor and explaine the situation you are in tell your pastor how its up setting you and how you are only a single mother and how this money you have counts on your needs also being met for you and your child

we dont do this with our young people we simply leave this in the buliten or anounce this once we even have a monthly magazine and every single event is put in this monthly magazine our church does fund raisers and also does food drives

you say you are in a midle class area then why is the need for this

wear my partner lives in the phillippines her members do not complaine as they believe in what it says in gods word and god has often blessed not just my partner but her members our church is a run down old building but the members give with out complaining sometimes it could be their monthly wage

but her members put what is preached into practise and share everything they have and no one goes with out if a member needs some thing all they have to do is ask my partner even puts members up who travel from lacastaliana to bacolod and they sleep over at her grandmothers place as its a 2hr bus ride back home and if a member has a dr apointment or needs to do something in bacolod they are told not to waste their money on a motel

this is just how i see what you are saying hear fund raiser should not be happening every 6 weeks but two or three months

its time shy christian you speak up or write a letter to your pastor if you cant speak up do not feel guilty or do not feel bad god wil not come down on you and do not let no one manipulate you when you say no or make you feel guilty

darn i did a wouldhee sorry had to edit it

god bless from damo

About every six weeks our church has an event where a couple loud bands come to "entertain" the youth, or anyone else who can stand it. Neither my son or myself like this music, which is typically heavy metal or rap, and certainly wouldn't pay to go. Yet, each time other members, youth and adults alike, will keep bugging us. My son just told one lady "I'll think about it" and she said emphatically "You're going!"

The youth also puts on a meal about every six weeks. The food is OK, but overpriced. We can get the same thing cheaper in a restaurant or make it ourselves for considerably less. Again, people urge us to buy tickets. We have to budget our money.

How can we get people to leave us alone?

First, ask the Lord to give you the right words to say when this happens next time. Ask Him to give you the words to address it in love, but be firm. :emot-pray:

I would wonder why these folks keep bothering you about this. Especially the lady that had the gall to tell your son, "You're going." I'm single, and a man, and I would have been really plain and "blunt as a spoon" about that. No one should talk to your children like that, but that's just me. Just be honest. Tell 'em you and your son don't like the music if that's the case and that you'd rather do something else. Be consistent. Keep this up and usually even the hard headed folks will finally get the message and will leave you alone. If there's a couple that don't, you may have to be very direct about it.

Something that occurs to me, though, is why are they doing this every six weeks or so? Where's the money going that they are making off of the dinners? What are they doing that they have to do this so often? I say this because if you don't get good answers to your questions, perhaps looking for a new church may be in order. I'm on a really tight income, too, and I'm pretty sensitive when people keeping asking for money - I don't have that much to spare.

Hope this helps. :emot-pray:

You just gave a good example.

Right now they're promoting their spaghetti dinner (no meatballs) for $8.00 apiece! I refuse to pay $16.00 for two dinners when I can make it at home so much cheaper.

That's a little pricey, for sure. Just say you're not interested; you're not obligated to attend these things. I never attend anything, unless it's family functions, because I just don't have the time. And I don't lose a minute of sleep over it either. We only have to please the Lord; not the congregation.

Is The Problem Here That The Kids Will "Get It" If Their Families Do Not Participate?

Do you want to help the youth at your church?

:noidea:

The only problem should be if they are spending the money unwisely. Otherwise, love would sit through a 5 year-old's violin recital and smile about it. if you don't like the youth then maybe you could find a Methodist church?

Sorry, I'm not donating money to be annoyed...by listening to 2-3 hours of loud noise (I mean music) that we hate.

The money is supposed to be for the kids to go to a week long camp in the summer that they go to every year.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
