My guess is no. Arsenic anyone? But the end of Mark, as some are sure to know:

17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Maybe its metaphor. We're supposed to have great faith, and can move mountains. But not physically move a mountain.

I imagine people have drunk things & died for not understanding the verse right. But a few can speak in tongues, heal, handle snakes, & cast out devils.

Anyway, thanks.

it is written, THOU SHALT NOT TEMPT THE LORD YOUR GOD....

No, we are not to purposely do things that would normally cause harm.... we are not to be playing with fire....

for instance, at age 5, i held a diamond back, no i did not dance with it nor taunt it, a handler was with me and instructed me how to do it..... I do not mess with venomous snakes, i understand them, i respect them. i have handled many snakes over the years, and yes, some venomous, usually removing them from populated area's where people would be apt to step on them..... the only snake ever to bit was a garden snake of almost 4 foot.... yes, it brought blood, but no danger.

i have had scorpions walk across my hand while sitting on the stoop, the first black widow i captured i found crawling on my arm....... I do not tease these animals, i treat them with respect...... not fear.....

drinking things to PROVE, something is not the way it is to be......

Saul biten by a viper, John was poisoned and even boiled in oil, doing it to prove a point is not the right way......

as with Saul, picking up a piece of wood to place on the fire, and a viper snags him, he shakes it off? How? cause the Spirit of God is with him.... and the viper dies..... hmm tells me that i do not wish to bite Paul during a fight.... lol....

you are right, people tend to use verses the wrong way, to do what they want to do.....

all for the glory of God. if someday, somewhere, a believer needs to drink a deadly drink and not be harmed for the purpose of glorifying God/displaying His power either for the purpose of bringing another to repentance or for some purpose known only to God, then it can and will happen. this is how i see the purpose of all miracles. it seems to me that until that time, they would only be for the glory of self.

Of course believers shouldn't be drinking anything deadly, this bible verse is not to be taken lightely, I know somebody testing another persons faith by asking him to drink poison and if he would live, he would believe in God and otherwise his God is the most powerfull

All 5 of the so called five-fold callings are in effect until the second coming, "The Perfect Age".

Eph. 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

youre first error you did was not take the scripture early enough.

Eph 4:7But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8This is why it[a] says:

"When he ascended on high,

he led captives in his train

and gave gifts to men."

He is quoting from Psalm 68. Read it.

Is he talking about spritiual gifts from the Holy Spirit? No, He is talking about unity in the body of Christ to grow together in our upward spiritual walk.

"12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up "

AND YOURE tying this to spiritual gifts that protect you from poison and such?

well, if it floats your boat then fine.

guzzle away

Second, to my knowledge, I have never drank anything poisonous and do not advocate the tempting of the Lord by doing such things intentionally. These snake charming Christians and people who intentionally ingest poison are fools who tempt the Lord contrary to scripture. The passage is merely stating that if you accidentally get snake bitten or ingest something deadly, by
faith, God will protect you

Do you try to say God wil not let the person die if he or she got bitten accidentely?

God will protect us, but we might die.............even with the biggest amount of faith but we will never lose our soul

First of all, get a bible that isn't doctored if you want to discus doctrine, because yours loses much of the meaning of the ephesians 4 passage on both this topic and others. As an example, the term "Captivity Captive" has a very specific meaning which your Bible has ommitted and replaced with "Captives in his train", and lost its real meaning.

i went to bible gateway.com and copied and pasted. relax.

These snake charming Christians and people who intentionally ingest poison are fools who tempt the Lord contrary to scripture. The passage is merely stating that if you accidentally get snake bitten or ingest something deadly, by faith, God will protect you.

it's not even about gettin bitten and you not being hurt. the entire passage reads the following:

15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

IF I DISPROVE ONE THING THEN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS ENTIRE PASSAGE.

so a verse says "they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. "

tell ya what. Walk into a hospital emergency rooma and ask one of the churches that practice that to start healing.

will they do it? NO THEY won't.

The verse never says the sick has to be a believer. The person healing is the believer.

As a matter of fact...those miracles were done by a believer to make the unbeliever believe.

So go do it. I'll be standing by the TV set hearing "Top story tonight: miracle group walks into emergency room and starts healing the sick."

Will it happen? NO. Why...cuz it's gone.

And this isn't that prayer kinda healing. this is instantaneous:

Acts 28:8 His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him.

This isn't a group humming and hooing every week making a prayer list. SO if you believe on "touch and heal" then by all means there

are tons of hospitals waiting for your service and be glad to believe in Christ.

I do believe in prayer and that God answers ALL our prayers but He doesn't always answers them the way we want.........

I believe its very arrogant to say the person who died with faith didn't have enough faith to get healed?

And the Healer is always "God"

i believe in prayer too but that mark passage is not "prayer healing."

The apostles had to go preach the gospels and they did the things Jesus did to convince the people.

They touched and healed.

If you think the Gifts of the Spirit are finished, why don't you go visit a few older pentecostal churches, preferrably Assemblies of God, Church of God, or non-denominational, and you'll see they are still very much alive.

I was part of a Pentecostal church and I will say that what they were doing was not the gifts that we see in the bible. Tongues were used to teach others of another nationality so they could understand the gospel. Other miracles we used to help convert the unbelievers that Salvation was only through God. Remember, there was a lot of idol worship amongst the Gentiles.

As far as the poison, we see an example of what happened to Paul.

"And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god." Acts 28:3-6

These signs and wonders were for the purpose of converting the lost.

I hope this clears this up some ...

It does, OneLight, but I am still puzzled why so many keep quoting the last few verses of Mark when those verses have been added later to the original and are, therefore, not scripture and not a sound basis for discussion about scripture.

Or am I mistaken in what I think?

Quite open to being corrected.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
