My husband keeps mentioning cancelling cable. He knows he spends just way too much time idly wasting time in front of the tube. I normally watch only Dr. Phil and Survivor, although there's no way I can actually watch Dr. Phil everyday, because of the time that it is on. In any case, our tv seems to be on constantly. I think this is normal for a modern household, but I'm getting sick of it. The dependancy.

I really am thinking more and more that cancelling cable is a very good idea, but as lame as this sounds, it seems like such a huge step - a monumental sacrifice. lol.

I'm thinking it's time to stop debating this in my mind and just go for it. It will probably actually be freeing in the end.

I actually did when I was a divorced mother with my daughter. I got about three channels, watched about one hour of tv a day or less and didn't feel like I was missing a thing. I had more time for reading and hobbies. These days, I'd like the extra time for Bible reading, prayer, reading Christian literature, as well as hobbies and family time.

I just tried to mention it to my husband again and asked him if he really was going to do it. I just got ssshushed by both my daughter and my husband because they are watching TV!!!!!! How ironic!

I guess I'm here for a nudge, so nudge away brothers and sisters. Or maybe this is a challenge. Not quite sure what this is actually. lol.

Hey,

I did, back in 1995,

saved 30 bucks a month....

dont miss it abit...

Dr. Phil and survivor are on the broadcast chanels anyways.... if you really wanna watch them..... I dont .......

I do like a few shows, but dont even watch them much....

just think what you can do with 30 bucks a month..... in a year, that would be 360 dollars, would be some good spending money for vacation......

or could be that much more a person could put on their house payment or car payment a year.... knock that principle down and get out of debt faster....

Actually, where I live, it's probably about 50 bucks a month I think. And yeah, the money saved could be well spent elsewhere.

yeah, i'm thinking about cancelling too, if i can get the apt. complex to allow me to have a satellite dish installed! :D

believe it or not, satellite is cheaper than cable here. ridiculous, huh?

i watch news. if i'm not watching news, i'm watching discovery health channel, or courtTV (awesome forensics shows) or something like that. the TV usually doesn't come on til late evening. sometimes it's still on when i wake up though!

honestly, nobody in our family, including my 16 year old, has a whole lot of interest in tv... except me and my news!

I just did this also. TV can become quite the distraction from what God wants us to do.

^ Yeah and we've had it for the past 6 months again and at the end of our 12 month contract it will go again as the kids will all be going to school soon and Hubby and I spend more and more time here so we don't watch too much ourselves anyway.

I say go for it.

If you really really like those shows, could you not just follow them up on the internet? I am sure that they have a website.

I wish I never got addicted to t.v. lol. And that is what it became, an addiction, I had to watch certain shows and it was insane. I quit watching the tube. :t2: :t2: but now I am on here hehehe :D

There are definately more postives to getting rid of it, than keeping it. Good luck!!!

I have satellite dish and it's not much..bout' 35 bucks a month. I enjoy MSNBC and FOXNEWS so the dish stays.

But we have turned the television off during the day now. We watch Dr. Phil at night and then we faithfully watch reruns of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" because we just enjoy seeing if we can answer the questions.

Other than that...we don't watch much television. Saturday night we attend services at our church; Sunday we turn on Charles Stanley and that's about it.

See I wouldn't worry about it if it wasn't like an addiction. My husband comes home from work and turns on the tube and watches it until he goes to bed. He thinks he'll go crazy wondering what to do without it, but I keep telling him he'll be okay. lol. He knows he's got a problem and it's actually his idea to cancel it so I'll see if he can actually follow through.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
