As for the names - Adam was identified as Adam before the Fall..Gen 2 v 19.
That could be a translation issue, though - since "man" and "Adam" are the same word.

Adam means earth in Hebrew doesn't it?

So Adam is the same word for man in Hebrew?

From your first link, it looks like it adam applies to both earth and man.

Our pastor talked about this this past weekend. It's because it was Adam's responsibility. Then you could of course see Adam trying to play the victim.

Yeah, notice how Adam not only points the finger at the woman, but he points at God too: 'The woman You gave me!' Oh, I think I woulda been ducking for fear of lightning bolts at that point!

More seriously now, some verses to consider:

1Cor 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

And the whole 30th chapter of Numbers, especially:

Num 30:13 Every vow [which a woman makes], and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.

This to me in reading what has gone before says that only man is called by God to be priests and answerable to God for guiding or not guiding and being held responsible for their flock straying.I have also read that man carries both male and female genes whilst woman only carries female genes.So man rightly represents not just man but humans. A woman would just represent women[female]-make of that what you will - jimc

Do you think Adam knew that much about God? That God controlled all things?

At this point I picture Adam knowing God only as He who was there when he awoke to consciousness. I think Adam just knew God as that one who introduced him to life and surroundings with some strong counsel. At this point Adam was just still getting to know God . . . let alone His omni-ness

I doubt even if Adam had a working concept of what it meant when God told him he would "die" if he ate of the tree.

God had put the responsibility on Adam to keep His word:

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, though shalt not eat of it: for in that day that thou eatest thereof thou shat surely die. Genesis 2:16-18

It was after this that God caused the sleep to come over Adam and He took Eve from him.

So a woman can't represent a human being? Really? Also if God only uses men in authority - then why did he use Deborah to rule and judge israel?
