I thought I would share what I do when I am faced with temptation, sadness etc.

I pray and ask for a sign. If the sign comes as no, I simply shift my focus. I put this problem at the back of my mind and focus on something else. Surprisingly I don't feel sad anymore, and when I think about what I asked for after a few days, I either don't feel anything, or I am glad I didn't get my prayers answered. This is a basic psychological principle. When we are out with our friends/girlfriend, we feel happy to the core. Its not because we have no problems. It because we give our full attention to being with them. Why not use the same principle in all areas of our life?

I just thought I'll share my idea in case it helps someone.

LOL....I'm sorry, but you just have to explain to me how anyone could possibly compare the power of prayer to principles developed by humans who believe they understand how the human mind works.

More specifically, how is the power of prayer the equivalent of psychological principle, as the person who made the original post proposed?

I don't think you understood the original post. GH was running thoughts together. But I think she has a better understanding of leaning on the Lord than a lot of Christians, including me.

Her post is not about the power of prayer. (The only prayer she asked for was a sign.) Her post is about focus.

She has learned when the Lord says, "No," and comes to peace with the answer by accepting it (how many of us still fight with the Lord for what He says, "No," to?).

Then she makes a comparison of how we forget our troubles when with friends to our walk with the Lord. Why don't we forget our troubles when we are with Him in the same way? Here she has moved on to a different thought. Remember how Jesus said, "Do not worry..."? Well, GH is simply giving us a perspective to help us follow this command. The "Friends" and the "psychological principle" are nothing more than guidances to help us make the connection with the application.

Getting up in arms about her comparison because you have a problem with psychology is "straining gnats". Let it go. GH was attempting to offer encouragement the best way she knows how.

Oh so now I have a problem with psychology...I've noticed it's ok for you to get sarcastic about secular things and what others post.

And I'm not up in arms about what the original poster said...I'm however getting tired of people, other than the person starting the thread, taking what I type out of context and making an issue of it.

And I'm wondering why GH needs you to explain what she said.

Prayer has nothing to do with psychological principle.

Prayer has everything to do with everything in a Christian's life.

I agree with the whole putting-your-focus-on-something-else thing. Whenever I feel upset or stressed, I usually just whisper a little prayer. Then go for a walk, call a friend, or go online. Usually the problem isn't as big as I thought it was.

This really only works with problems that are out of your control, though. I don't think if you're broke you should pretend like it's not true. But, if you have a problem, and can't do anything about it, why worry? Put your trust and faith in God and believe that He'll make it better, it'll all work out in the end, it should. =)
