I'm not sure who they would be hiding it from, I mean it IS on the moon. I think it was probably just not thought about.

I think the Word of God was there before the beginning came into existence. God spoke and the spoken Word came into being. Pretty insteresting just the same the handiwork of God is all around and then some.

I think from reading the posts there was some legal dispute going on, and some people, particularly Madelyn Murray O'Hare (also O'Hair) objected to an American Mission like this being used to promote any sort of religious ceremony, or even read from any religious texts....somehow I guess they argued it was not fully representative of America...hence for legal reasons it was not promoted and in fact even hidden.

Wiki has this to say about Mrs O'Hare that will give some insight into the strength of opposition these acts faced.

Madalyn Murray O'Hair (April 13, 1919 September 29, 1995) was an American atheist activist, and founder of the organization American Atheists and its president from 1963 to 1986. Her son, Jon Garth Murray, was the president of the organization from 1986 to 1995, while she remained de facto president during these nine years[citation needed].

She is best known for the Murray v. Curlett lawsuit, which led to a landmark Supreme Court ruling ending government sponsored prayer in American public schools. O'Hair later founded American Atheists and became so controversial that in 1964 Life magazine referred to her as "the most hated woman in America."[1][2]

In 1995 she was murdered, along with her son and granddaughter (whom she had adopted), by David Roland Waters.[3]

I was listening to Christian radio today and I heard the story about how astronaut David Scott, as the Apollo 15 mission on the moon was ending, placed a Bible on the Lunar Rover, and left it there:

"David Scott's final task of his moon-walk was to drive the Rover out a distance from the Lunar Module to a point where the TV camera could watch the lift off. He left a small Bible on the Rover's dash panel; and, beside the Rover, he laid a figure of a fallen astronaut and a small plaque recording the names of all the astronauts and cosmonauts that had lost their lives in the furtherance of space exploration. The Rover carried its own message, 'Man's first wheels on the moon. Delivered by Falcon, July 30, 1971.'"

How awesome is it to know that when we look up at the moon, God's word is up there!
