Campus Crusade for Christ changing name

If someone came up to talk to me and said they were from "cru" I would have no idea what they were talking about. I would not call that progress.They should keep the name "Christ" in their name. They should not be ashamed of the word "Christ", but by dropping it, they make it appear that they are. Just my opinion.

So if they said they were from cru, and began to discuss Christ with you, you would have no idea what they were talking about. Shouldn't the concern be about the content, and not the actual name change.

Are you certain they are ashamed?

What if it's:

19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews ; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law ; 21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak ; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some. 23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it. So the purpose of the name change is to broaden their horizons to reach more people,and a more diversified group of people, am I reading you correctly. If that is indeed the case, I suppose the name change is for the better, but they could have come up with something other than "cru".

It's what they've been using internally for years...... and the name change is only for the US based part of the organization from what I understans..... Campus Crusade for Christ international....... is still that.

All I can say is that the Staff people in the US were seeing that the name Campus Cursade for Christ used when introducing themselves to people tended to turn some people away even before they had a chance to really speak to them...... and most of the Staff people called themselves Cru for a really long time.... it was being used about ten years ago when my daughter went to Russia for a year and a half. These people are about the most effecient Gospel spreaing people on the face of the earth and if they think changing thier name will help...... then just get over it.

I didn't mean to be so fussy abc. We'd been driving all day and I was tired..... and a bit frustrated at all the fuss of this name change.

I do believe you'll find the answers to your question either in my past posts or just go to the Cru web site to get a good understanding...... it's really a simple thing.... They thought their name was getting in the way of spreading the word so they changed it to what they'd been calling themselves internally for over 10 years. Since they are one of the best organizations around in spreading the gospel, it doesn't make sense to me to make such a fuss about changing the name, for they do know what they are doing and have been doing so for over 50 years.
