Welcome to the Board Agopy!

Some things with Christmas are about Jesus, i.e. manger scenes, some Christmas carols (even if several are theologically inaccurate), church plays.

It's working cool.gif

I'm not hear to bash anyone just struggaling with some scripture that I have read that says not to do as the pagans do and just trying to get some diffrent opinions on what is consider pagan holidays. Was also wondering why we and why the church doesn't teach about the holidays they celebrated in the old testament or were they done away with at the cross.

Actually you can still celebrate many of the "OT" festivals, feasts etc etc, no reason why you couldn't today. Many messianic congregations do. I enjoy them. Much better than Christmas, because I hate theologically inaccurate carols, tinsels, and platitudes. taped.gif

there is nothing in and of itself that makes christmas a pagan holiday. it is what one does with that day. does one celebrate christmas because of tradition and to be with friends and family? if so there is nothing at all wrong with that. now if one is celebrating christmas because there pagan they arn't celebrating christmas but rather the winter solstice.

now as for the old testiment holidays they were for the jews as a remembrance of gods faithfullness and goodness. and the new testiment says that the sabbaths and holidays the jews celebrated were a "shadow" of what was to come, and the fufillment of those came through christ.

Hi everone

I think I've or maybe we have been dicived by parents and the church about Christmas what's your thoughts on this issue ?

This subject comes up every year at this time and I get shot down pretty hard when I speak what my research has informed me. But I simply can't give up so here we go again.

If you would study Jewish custom you well find that the Jews in the days of Jesus and even the Jews of today do not celebrate birthdays. Because they consider the celebration of birthdays to a pagan ritual and since Jesus was a Jew who followed the laws and costums of Moses we know that Jesus also believed the same way. This is why there are only two biblically recorded birthday celebrations and both of them were done by non-believers/pagans and in both birthday celebrations a man was murdered at the command of the birthdayee as part of the birthday celebration.

There is no command by God to celebrate any birthday for any reason written anywhere in the bible and Jesus himself never celebrated his own birthday nor did he command us to celebrate his birthday. Not only that but the celebration of the birth of Christ as in Christmas was not celebrated for the first 300 years of the church.

Now most folks have the idea that if it is done for the right reasons then that makes it ok but one can call pagan ritual anything they want but it is still pagan ritual.

The biblical example I always use to show what God thinks about doing that which is wrong in the eyes of God with the seemingly right modivations is the story about the ark of the covenant on the cart. When King David was transporting the Ark of the Covenant back to the temple from Philistinian hands the cart hit a bump in the road and caused the Ark to wabble. So the driver of the Ark reached out to steady the Ark to keep it from falling to the ground and when he did God killed him at the very second his hand touched the Ark.

So, did the driver of the cart touch the Ark out of respect for God to keep it from falling to the ground? YES he did and he did it for the right reasons. But God commanded that no human would ever touch the Ark which is why there were polls used to transport it. So right reasons or not, disobeying a commandment from God is considered by God to be a sin against him.

Well the same kind of commandment applies to the use of pagan ritual to celebrate the birth of God in the flesh. We are commanded not to have anything to do with anything that has anything to do with Paganism. And when we use pagan ritual to honor and celebrate Our God we are actually slapping him in the face. If God wanted us to celebrate the birth of Jesus he would have told us to do it.

I wouldn't say that we were lied to by our parents because they were decieved by the church who lied to everyone. The Universal Church knew what they were doing and claimed that they were doing it for a good reason but in reality they adopted paganism into the church and compromised/corrupted not only the church but also the gospel of Jesus.

There is no proof in scripture that God respects the use of any pagan ritual to celebrate Christ just because it is the only time of the year that some folks talk about Jesus.

Me To!

I know that Jesus was not born on Christmas Day, my parents informed me of this when I was about 7, however, they said this is the day we choose to honor the Birth of Jesus, for we no not the real date.

I was very up set to learn that Satan was not real.

Satan is real, Santa is not. Kudos if you can tell the difference though ;).

The Birth of Christ should be celebrated every day! Yet, since we are discussing one particular day, "One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it."

It's not in there.

It's a tradition created sometime between the 2nd and 4th centuries.

It was created to replace "the birth of the sun" celebration with "the birth of the Son [of God]".

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
