ok, the jews believe per ramban that the flood covered the whole. earth. the book of beersherit(genesis) is a written oral story with an exodus bias. noah met abram and taught him the story. and he passed it on, nahor as well.if the flood of genesis is local then so will be his return as peter compares the end of the earth to that.

What verse or book does Peter compare the end to the flood again?

2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

2Pe 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

2Pe 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

2Pe 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

2Pe 2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

Amazing to see the deception of the devil at work. What did God really say?

My dear children, love God with all your heart, mind, soul and body, while loving your neighbor as yourself and the truth of the matter will become clear. God made a statement with the flood to man who is upon the earth. Believe, fear God and follow Christ. There is yet a flood of another kind coming to destroy them who dwell upon the face of the earth irreverently. That which is natural comes first followed by that which is spiritual, a biblical principle we would do well to take heed unto. The vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction are ready to receive them that are coming and finish the work of judgment that is necessary to cleanse the earth and bring in the kingdom of God upon the earth, praise his name! Be not deceived. God is not mocked. He has said it and will do the preforming of it. Noah was warned of God of things not seen as of yet and spent 100 years building a boat that would house two of each kind of animal as well as seven of the clean. Noah wasn't an ignorant man lacking understanding who didn't understand that a local flood could simply be avoided by moving to a far country that wouldn't be flooded. NO. He built the boat. Argue against this to your own peril but the truth is the truth is the truth forevermore. God will judge his creation. Praise his Holy Name!

In Jesus Name,

Gary

The site owner and author of the link you posted Iatepistachios, does not believe in young earth creationism so it could explain why his particular viewpoint is that the flood was not a global flood. He also appears to be catholic. Does the catholic church teach that the flood was not a global event now?

That's another thing that gets me more than the local flood issue. I mean if one day meant a longer period of time that was more than a day doesn't take away the glory and magnificence of the LORD Most High. Another thing is that יוֹם yom can mean 'day' can also mean 'time' or 'year'. So since it doesn't say specifically "in a 24 hour period of time," or something of the such, why couldn't it be a year?

When the plain sense makes sense seek no other sense!

Ge 1:5

5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

NKJV

When doing a study always look for a descriptor to determine a locale or a time period etc. This one shows you that the flood was global . . .

Genesis 7:3 KJV Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive
upon the face of
all the earth
.

That means everything would be wiped out globally.

in fact it was only Mesopotamia that was flooded.

Just as the Flood was Global, so will be the Final Judgment.

I don't think it was global. If it was truely global, every culture on earth would have a flood legend or myth. There are cultures that have no legends or myths of a flood; therefore, it could not be global. There are some things in the Bible that are more allegory. The Great Flood is one of them.

Do you apply the 'every culture on earth' criteria right across the board? If you do not, then why apply it to the flood as presented in scripture?

You believe the flood is allegory? Where is your proof of this? If you believe that ancient peoples did not have the knowledge to

fathom the globe as we do today, then why would you take as proof a lack of writing of a global flood when you state yourself

that they are inaccurate? Just really makes no sense at all

Here, is proof again (from poster above me) that the flood was global. If you state otherwise, then you are DELIBERATELY

choosing to believe something other than scripture as your 'truth'.

Selene, you make a good argument, but lets examine what was taking place carefully in Genesis chapter 6, beginning with verse 5.

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

God is speaking in terms of being grieved he made mankind. He says he will destroy man from the face of the earth. Now, lets suppose that God was only speaking of mankind in a certain populated area, and that he was only looking to destroy animals from a certain part of the earth? If that were true, there was no need for an ark to preserve the animals and the human race, because they would continue in other parts of the planet, and continue to exist. Jump down to verse 13.

13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

This was a plan to destroy every creature on the planet. That is why he had Noah build an ark. It was so life could continue, and start over. Again, if this was only a local event, there was no need for the ark to preserve life on the earth. We have flooding today, and it often claims a lot of lives, but life goes on because it is localized, which brings up another problem. The rainbow was a sign of a covenant between God and man that he would never destroy the earth with a flood again. We still have localized floods, and the destruction of many lives, but God never promised there would be no floods in localized areas. He just promised he wouldn't destroy the world with a flood, and the rainbow isn't limited to one small area. I see them all the time, and they are reminders of the great flood, and God's covenant. Notice what it says in Genesis 8:21,22

21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

The more you read of the story, the more obvious it is that this was a worldwide flood. The entire planet was under water, and only those in the ark survived.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
