Weeds in the garden sometimes grow slower then the real crop but in the end the weeds will chock off the true life of the crop if left to grow.

She is talking about her husband once living in darkness ...just as we all were living in the darkness. Until the Lord saves us.

That does not mean that her husband is a witch if he ...may have heard to use salt as a protection.

It may have been said to him to use salt as a protection, something like saying old tales.

She did not indicate that her husband was into witchcraft.

i hear what you're saying, love songs, but when someone "turns to the dark side" that generally means someone made a conscious choice to embrace the powers of darkness to use for their own gain. that's a little different than the spiritual darkness we all live in prior to salvation.

when the child was having nightmares, her husband 'had a hunch' to use salt as a protective barrier, and said she should trust him on that. her husband is saved now. the only protection he needs to be encouraging his family to trust in is the blood of Jesus, not some superstitious hunch that has no scriptural support and that sounds dangerously like the lure of the dark side he was once enmeshed in.

i think the whole family is in need of protective prayers at this point. it sounds like satan is using a tried and true tactic... confusing the head of the house with what appears to be "good", but is really evil dressed up in disguise.

Any person, place, thing or idea that is not of God are the weeds = sons of the evil one, misdirection of believers into following something other than Jesus as your Saviour. ie " the salt worked. the problem is over." the weed is the thought that the salt worked.

In the words of Jesus:

But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. "The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?' "'An enemy did this,' he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' "'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. I don't understand what you're saying here.

i think dave was "getting inside satan's head" so to speak. why wouldn't satan pretend something is working in order to deceive the person until such a time? it's like baby steps... the person being deceived may be smart enough to recognize a more obvious play, but if satan can lure them away a little at a time, they don't even realize they're following him.

of course, that may not be what dave meant at all. i'm just guessing.

i have to agree that if it is demonic, it is probably being passed down from each generation. you will need more than salt to protect you. don't be freaked, though. pray and seek out someone more mature in these things to help you and your husband get to the root of it.

salt and vinegar make great home remedies. but i bet you won't find one in that book that says to use it as a barrier against evil spirits

Makes great Salad Dressing as well but I doubt satan or any of his minions are really the slightest bit afraid of Vinagrette.
