I have not followed all your post but where is the scripture to support your view on prophets today can be in error and they get better by practice. I don't recall ever reading any thing that comes close to that in scripture.

Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith

Do we grow in faith? We prophesy in proportion to our faith. Sometimes we can step out and take a risk, but not have enough faith to complete the task for example Peter stepping on the water, or the demon the disciples couldn't cast out because of their measure of faith in Mark 9. Same when we prophesy.

i totally agree

What I don't understand is prophecy come through a person as the Spirit wills and you are like you know for a fact that when you get permission you are going to cut loose, how can you be so sure that the Spirit is going to will it and move within you. humm!

I would agree with growing in faith and in the sharing of the written word according to our growing knowledge of that word. It just doesn't seem like from your post I responded to that you were talking about witnessing to the gospel but were talking about receiving new prophesy from the Lord. If you are not talking about new prophesy I would be more inclined to agree.

As I seek the Lord, I become more sensitive to the way He talks to me, or when He is prompting me to do something. I believe this question is best learned by intimacy with the Lord.

Here's a few examples of recieving impressions and words of knowledge from the Lord when I first started walking this out.

One of the first times I ever recieved anything from the Lord, I was witnessing to a girl and I felt in my heart that she was abused by a person of the faith and that caused her to run away from God. At first I was scared, and was wondering if I told myself that and I couldn't figure out how I knew that. I asked her and she broke down crying and gave her life to the Lord. She was molested by a priest when she was 7 years old and hated Christianity because of it.

Another time, I was working as a door greeter at walmart and "arthritis, right leg" popped in my head as an older customer walked in. I prayed, Lord if that was you, provide a way for me to pray for them. So as the couple left walmart I was asked to help them with their bags. I asked the guy if he had arthritis in his right leg and he said yes, so after a few times praying the Lord completly healed him.

One night, as I was leaving work, I went into the employees lounge because I felt the Spirit prompt my heart to. As I did, I met up with a guy named Logan, who randomly made a comment about Christianity to me not knowing I was a Christian. I shared with him about the Lord a little bit, then he had to get back to work. I started to leave and Holy Spirit said wait, go back to Logan. So I started walking to where he was working, worried I was going to get him in trouble and as I did, he came out of the back room and started walking a bike to the bike isle giving me a chance to talk to him. I shared my testimony and as I was talking, there were some crazy distractions going on but he was listening. He got sent to cover a door greeter shift so I got to talk to him a while about the Lord and a few weeks later, he gave his life to the Lord.

Each one of these times, I wasn't sure if it was the Lord or I made it up and told myself it. It took a step of faith to act on them. As we grow in intimacy with the Lord, we get more sensitive to where He is leading. As we obey, He gives us more.

When I first began to speak to Scott, each time we got together, the Lord would take whatever we talked about and move his pastor to preach it the following Sunday. It got Scott's attention.

We all are led to say the things that we say by what we have in our hearts. I simply seek to have the Word of God flooding my heart along with the Spirit of God in hopes that what comes out is the Voice of God and not me parroting some other.

Half the victory in the Christian life is understanding that we are always being led. Servants must have masters and men were created in the form of a servant.

Yesterday I was led, in love, to point out to someone that they were speaking out of both sides of their mouth and therefore were lying. I explained sincerely how God had taught me that I had been guilty of doing the same thing before and the man was truly amazed because he had no idea that he was even doing it but could not deny it when it was brought to his attention.

I have trouble identifying that which I am given to say as a prophetic word to another. Jesus merely spoke to the woman about her past and she perceived him a prophet. I tend to like what Jesus had to say about his own words as he said, "I speak as I hear." I try to do the same but with the exception of not repeating after the evil one for when I would to do good, evil is present with me and always vying for a position close to the door of my mouth. :)

NO, It's part of what we need. Being Children of God, we are suppose to hear his voice. We are suppose to be Spirit led. Suppose to be. The gift of Prophecy, or Word of Wisdom, word of Knowledge should be working in every single believer. I am not talking about the Ministry office of the Prophet. Just normal believers, that go to a job, and take care of their household.

What more do we need to know of prophecy? Everything is right there in Scripture.

What do you believe a prophecy, or a prophetic word is?

Well I do not agree, necessarily, with all the examples of subjective words of knowledge....whether or not they were true is not the issue I am addressing,

for reasons both personal and also I believe, Biblical, in what light are you rejecting any prophecy Tinky?

The gift of prophecy as explained and demonstrated in the NT is primairly for the forthtelling of the Word...ie. those who are gifted by the Holy Spirit

to explain the Bible and give insight and give life to the words on the page. In the sense of an OT prophet, I do not see that being an operation through

believers by the Holy Spirit. I do believe that prophetic words in the sense of personal application are given or even direction for a body of believers

but in the sense of a prophet being sent of God as a prophet to any nation, I have yet to be convinced such a thing is biblical. I addressed that in

another thread, now locked.

Are you aware that the Holy Spirit operates by the will of God and makes alive or makes real the words of the Bible to our spirits?

Here:

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.c 14The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:

For who has known the mind of the Lord

5]that he may instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ. I Cor 2

Do you feel sometimes a longing for God and are you stirred or made aware of the depth of the truth of scripture? THAT, is the Holy Spirit

making the Bible real to you.......that is not something we can conjure up and the Bible without the Spirit, is dry.

who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. II Cor. 3:6

The experience we should seek after, is to be filled with the Holy Spirit....not to have strange things happen to us (God knows I've had my share

but I think it the better part of wisdom not to take them out and see how they glitter in the light...I am not comfortable with relating but very seldom

and I believe that is in keeping with the pattern I see in scripture and truthfully, at times when I would like to share, I feel quite checked by the

Holy Spirit and so I refrain from doing so because God knows the reason....I do not)

The Holy Spirit is given to help us to live for Christ and to be our teacher and draw us to God. That does not mean we do away with others teaching

by any means as some think, but we appreciate the teachers that God gives for the edification of the body of Christ as that is the reason we have

all the gifts in the first place

Spiritual gifts do not make one person better than another person. Remember, that love is supposed to be the oil that keeps the machine

running and not strange events or dreams or visions...mind you, they do have their place, BUT they never supersede the written Word.

I don't follow gifts or dreams or visions...and I have them...I follow Christ and I understand that the devil wants to deceive and

has led many astray through dreams and or visions because the receiver of such things put their faith in those things rather

than in Christ.

Am I saying that those who write of their experience here are false? No I am not. I am saying that you are right when you say we

have the Bible what more do we need...but the more we need, is what Jesus Himself promised us, and that is to be filled with

the Holy Spirit according to the will of God for each one of us.

This is not about speaking in tongues...there are many who blabber in tongues and never edify anyone. This is about the legitimate

infilling of the Holy Spirit as God wills and as we desire and as we have faith to receive. We do not all have the same gifts and even those

that do have the same gift do not necessarily operate in the same measure of faith in that gift.

My actual point, is no one can walk in the shoes of another and tell them this is how things ought to be.

What one person does is not necessarily what another should do or aspire to. We each must be honest before God because

He knows what is in our hearts....sometimes it would behoove us to wait before Him until He has the opportunity to insert

a word in and show us what He actually sees.

Like the Word says: Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Pslam 32:9

The main thing, is to make sure you are actually listening to the Holy Spirit and not another spirit.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
