The brain is a roadmap of constantly changing paths and highways.  Unless you watch soap opera all day or Dr. Doozey or whatever that guys name is,

your brain is constantly developing new pathways and forming habits or unforming habits.

People can addict themselves to anything...how about fetishes or hoarding?  All these things are behaviors.

Maybe if there wasn't so much money involved in porn and it didn't appeal to base human nature, it would not be so...cough...appealing

I wouldn't excuse my sin in the name of addiction just yet..............

I don't think anyone is excusing sin in the name of addiction, or at least I hope not?  Even if porn is an addiction, it is still sinful, just as alcohol addiction doesn't excuse being a drunkard.  The article only says you can become addicted to porn, and it can do permanent damage.  It seemed more like a warning than an excuse?  People do become addicted to a lot of things.  I have seen people addicted to gambling and even video games.

If they manage to label porn an actual addiction, maybe people can get time off work (to view more porn) with pay, to go to a shrink who will tell them they

are sick and then those who are porn addicted can say 'it isn't their fault' and then perhaps a few months leave might be in order, with pay of course,

addiction counselling, group therapy (no giggles please) and meds will be perscribed and the drug companies will have to have gazillions in research money

to help all the poor degenerates addicts who can't take their eyes off someone else's daughter and then more studies will be needed and of course there will

be no end to the volunteers for that study but maybe they can be paid so that at least their addiction will be worth something and...it's all downhill folks

Wondering when the word sin is going to be removed from the Bible and replaced with habit, addiction, impulse, bad childhood, poor choice and needy

Maybe society needs to stop excusing itself for its flagrant sin.  Cause that is what it is.

I don't recall any addictions that bring such benefits in Australia. Which addictions allow people paid leave in USA ?

All addictions are sin and may be based in idolatry and they create strongholds which can be difficult to break.

Why would porn be literally addictive? I don't get it. We are entirely too quick to label things as addictions. Yes, if you do x and it's pleasurable, you are more inclined to do thing x again. Is that all that we mean? Because that learned behavior applies to just about anything.

because it stimulates the same pleasure centers as does heroin.

people who get really addicted to porn get to the point they had rather do porn than sex itself....   it will literally destroy a marriage....

on a side note i don't think bopeep understands what levels porn today has reached........   and that is very refreshing to me.

Yes, people also have affairs and destroy their marriages. That doesn't mean they have addictions. It means they make bad choices. They wouldn't be doing this if it weren't pleasurable, so what? I think we are entirely too quick to label things as 'addictive' and explain bad behavior in terms of addiction rather than people just doing dumb or wrong things.

Very good point.

I can't answer for people who might excuse their sin ....  that was just a general statement Butero.   Listen...I did some research before I wrote what I did. That article is all over the place and has been

picked up and run with from newspapers to TV to 'Christian' and quasi Christian sites.

It was 19 people in the study...NOT 1900!  And yet, people are using it like it is the absolute truth and finally we have the answer to why some people (cause it's women too, although the higher

percentage is men) cannot stay away from viewing other people's private parts.

There are personality types that are more prone to addicition that the general populace although to be sure, some things that are not as socially offensive are just as addictive...like food for

example.

I would not hesitiate to state that porn can and does do permanent damage...both for the viewer and for the ones churning it out.  The Bible doesn't say to RUN from sexual sin for nothing!

Porn isolates and destroys.

I read an essay from a psychology site on this topic. There is a difference between high speed internet porn addiction and other types of porn addiction, such as magazine porn. The reason for this is the ubiquity of porn on the net. A person can go through an image every few seconds for days on end. Each image causes a dopamine spike. It causes the base dopamine level to increase in the brain and the desire for the continuation of the pleasure spikes is maintained. Also the article said that recovery from the addiction is possible, but for younger people the recovery period is about six months, but for people who get the addiction at an older age the recovery period is much shorter; about one or two months.

Choclate causes a dopamine spike if that is what you really really like.  Whatever gratifies or satisfies the individual will be what they reach for.  If people reach for alcohol, meth, cocaine, food, or

porn, it will give them pleasure.

The study is not surprising.  I mean, were they trying to prove that looking at porn was painful?  Only if you get caught at work I guess..............

It's interesting that there's a preemptive ( anticipatory ) dopamine release for porn addicts. I'm not sure if this is similar to physical stimulants. The problem with the sexual dopamine release is that it's followed by the endorphin release.

The article attempts to show the debilitating effects of porn and why it should be avoided at all costs. It doesn't attempt to remove responsibility from the addict.

In other words, it goes both ways. Physical reality affects the heart. And the heart affects physical reality (the brain). Therefore, this horrific news from brain research about the enslaving power of pornography is not the last word. God has the last word. The Holy Spirit has the greatest power. We are not mere victims of our eyes and our brains. I know this both from Scripture and from experience.

I do agree with you on one point.  People do come up with bogus studies, and promote them as gospel truth.  I have questioned the reliability of the study?  I am just saying that I can see how nearly anything can become mentally addictive.  Of course porn does permanent damage, and people should run from sexual immorality.

I don't know how valid the study is, but it does make sense.  I'm trying to figure why the negative comments on it.  It's not like anyone seems to be saying it's ok....  if anything just an explanation as to why God told us not to get caught up in it.  Sort of validating why.  I have to ask.......   is that bad??

Hmmm... well here in North America, it is different.  Maybe you have more sense down there?

Alcoholcs can be referred to as addicts and of course all the drug adicts...there are government programs that provide help and are funded for that help.

I don't live in the US now...but I have for some 8 or so yrs...you do know I was kind of being a little sarcastic?  ( to make a point)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
