What do I know about coverings?    I know they cover things.    Can you be more specific and not assume we automatically know what you're referring to?

Basics of the headcovering.

Plymouth Brethren teach that women are to have their heads covered during church meetings, while men are to have their heads uncovered. This is based on 1 Corinthians 11:1-16.

The argument from scripture is that man is the glory of Christ, woman is the glory of man, and a woman’s hair is her glory. Therefore for a man to be covered is to cover the glory of Christ, so he remains uncovered. A woman’s hair is given to her as a covering so she is not displayed as man’s glory, but her hair must also be covered so that the only glory in the room is the glory of Christ. The headcovering is considered a symbol of authority, since man is head of the woman and Christ is head over all. The reference to the angels in verse 10 is considered to be proof that this passage is not merely cultural, since angels exist outside of culture and time. Since the book of 1 Corinthians is addressed to “all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” this is taken to mean that nothing in the book is cultural or specific to just the church at Corinth.

The type of headcovering varies depending on personal preference and conviction. Some women wear a lace circle that covers the top of their head, while others wear a lace veil that covers more of their hair. I would wear a scarf wrapped around my hair so that none of my hair showed during the meetings.

1 Cor.11:10

For this reason, and because the angels are watching, a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authority.

We used to go to a Brethren church  where the women were expected to wear a head covering ,we went there for many years  when we just came to Canada .

The scriptures say that a woman's long hair acts as her covering, but some also feel the need to wear something in addition to having long hair.  It is a sign they are under their husband's authority.  When a man has short hair, it is a sign he is under God's authority.

If you study that passage in 1 Cor 11:1-16, what Paul is really saying is that since nature itself teaches that God has given woman long hair for a covering (which is her "glory"), then the Holy Spirit can teach further that those hair and that head must be covered during worship, so that her "glory" is hidden in the presence of God's glory and Christ's glory.  The only glory must be the glory of God. And yes, the head covering teaches about Headship at the same time.

I thought women covering there head was an OT law. I did not see covering requirements in the New covenant. so my thoughts are if you live by New Covenant your hair is fine if you prefer the Old law to the New Covenant then you would need a head covering.

Please note that the Scriptures referenced in various posts above are from 1 Corinthians, which is a book of the New Testament or New Covenant.

There is a teaching that Christians need a spiritual covering. For women, it is their husband and for the husband, it is the pastor. Where I live, it was and still is a very popular teaching. And used to manipulate and abuse. It is a standard practice for pastors and elders, when they meet a believer who is not a member of their church doing something involving church or Christianity, they will ask, 'Who is your covering?'  If your response is 'Jesus', you are considered rebellious as you will not submit to a Pastor.

I once did a search in scripture for the actual word, covering. The majority of uses are in the OT. In the OT, things like the veil in the Temple are referred to as a covering. It is often something which keeps you separated from God due to your sinfulness. In the NT, Jesus died for our sin, and we can now go boldly into the throne room.

The 'who is your covering' teaching often goes along with sayings like, 'touch not Gods annointed', meaning do not speak badly or disagree with a pastor or leader. That term is used in the OT, when Saul was attacking David. David was already annointed to be King, but Saul had not yet been removed as King. Davids men offered to kill Saul but David replies, touch not Gods annointed. Saul had been annointed, but was now an evil king and God was going to remove Saul, putting David in Saul's place. Why people would use that line, as it implies the pastor was annointed by is now an evil pastor. Anyway, in the NT, all believers are annointed, with the Holy Spirit in them, and called for a purpose.

Isaiah 61:10

“I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

Jesus is the covering of our head ,He is covering us  with His presence until the day we meet Him!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
