Great post. Wish more people would abstain from alcohol. Addiction is pure evil.

Drinking alcohol in excess is very common in our world now.It can be dangerous to drink alcohol excessively. The Bible does not tell us we can not drink at all but not to get drunk.

I agree bobeep , it is ok to have a glass now and then but if you think you NEED it to survive a person should go for help, often they think they're not alcoholic l and try to hide it...

I'll  just stick with Dr. Pepper.    I have no use for alcohol.  I don't care if others choose to drink, but I have found a lot of wisdom in just staying away from it.

There is wisdom in staying away from it but at the same time now and then a glass wine is no big deal..as long as it does not control you~~

We are, in most circumstances, taught that if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. An excess of alcohol consumption throws all those teachings to the side.

(Unfortunately)

True words Beth....people don't realize what happens if they drink too much...

It can be evil if you use it wrong...the sad part is that kids at a very young age think alcohol is the coolest drink to have...and then it starts getting into addictions~~

Self control is one of the fruit of the Spirit.  Losing control is normally a fearful thing for me.  It leads to embarrassment and shame.  The only exceptions are medical such as surgery or dental work.

The use of alcohol or drugs for social purposes is neither sophisticated nor intelligent.

I think you are right as long as it is not excessive.

Similar to gluttony, caffeine addiction is something that Christians are often hypocritical about. Christians are quick to condemn addiction to alcohol and tobacco, but tend to ignore other more “socially acceptable” addictions such as over-eating and caffeine. Alcohol clearly can have more dangerous effects on behavior and can be harmful to health when abused. Tobacco is harmful to health in even small quantities. In comparison, caffeine might not seem so bad, but “it’s not as bad as…” is not something Christians should live by. Rather, Christians should live by “Is it right? Is it honoring to God?”

I admit I drink occasionally. Never been drunk nor had any want to. Not only for biblical reasons, which are reason enough, but also because of a character flaw-im a control freak. I don't like feeling out of control, even the slight buzz feeling one gets from drinking a shot of whiskey to fast, I can't stand. So that alone keeps me from drinking to excess.

I've had a lot of experience with people who over drink.    Some become sweet caring people, others like myself just get sleepy.....     but some it turns the beast loose that common sense normally keeps control of...

I do think that the real person comes out when people are drunk, and that's what makes over indulgence so dangerous.    When you loose control over the thing that keeps you sane and safe, you can and usually will either strike out at others or put yourself in a position to be taken advantage of.....

Me I just used to crawl over into the corner and go to sleep......   which would not be safe for some females around those whose beast has been turned loose.

One of the funniest things I remember about those college parties was one night when this cute little 100 pound blond made a big football player cry right out in front of everyone.....   after a few minutes one kind of had to feel sorry for the football guy.....   she tied him up with this little black belt she had on and wouldn't let him up till he sobered up..

Drinking too much alcohol has caused more grief in people around me than anything I can think of.    I suppose it may be more drugs these days, but back in the 60's when I was going through that stage it was mostly alcohol.  During my college years I drank every day, but very rarely was ever drunk.   I probably shouldn't have driven at times, but never really drunk....    and if my nose started to get that numb feeling, my keys went into hiding.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
