Before I 'deconverted' from Christianity four years ago, I attended a Catholic church mainly, as that was the faith I was raised in. I belonged to one particular church in my area, as a member, and went every Sunday. Now, that I've returned to faith, I'm thinking of attending non-denominational services, but no one 'set' church.

Just wondering if you belong to one particular church, and do you think it's important to 'join' one particular church, and make that your church you attend services every Sunday?

No I don't :)I would be interested in a small congregation.I do not think a denomination is important.I would want to feel welcomed at a Church.I would want to really feel the love of Christ among the congregation. It would have to be a Church that would uphold the true word of God and the pastor would have to preach from the Bible honoring that true word and preaching faithfully.I have not found that.

Since becoming a Christian, I've moved house several times. Each time I found myself in a new area, I went to find myself a church. The denominational label is less important than the preaching (as Bopeep has said) and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible tells us that we are the Body of Christ, and that we all have a part to play in that Body (I Corinthians 12).

https://deborahsbiblestudies.wordpress.com/the-church/the-body-of-christ/

So I do think it's important to commit yourself to one local church and get to know the people there (it may take a few weeks or months to decide which one). You can't have genuine fellowship with people you only see occasionally. And it's only as part of a fellowship that you can contribute your gifts (whatever they are). Jesus wants you to be part of a church - ask Him to guide you to the right one.

I do have a home church which I attend regularly and am active in, which I think is important for all believers. And by active I don't mean I just attend all the events. It means I serve. To many people have the wrong impression about churches. They just go to see what they can get out of it. And the problem is they are only happy until they no longer get what they want then they burn out and leave. Instead believers need to go and see what they themselves can put into that church. If everyone went to serve, and not be served then the church would be a better place and everyone's needs would be met.

With that said there are several churches in town that I am also connected to, and serve in one capacity or another.Another thing Christians struggle with is thinking that THEIR church is the best and everyone else are false prophets. And certainly there are churches that are false prophets.

But often the differences are small, or not related to salvation. In these cases we need to remind ourselves that none of us are perfect, and that none of us will have a perfect understanding of all things scriptural until we make it to heaven. We need to focus on the important doctrines and maybe look past some of the less important ones (like how many times a church does communism for example) and come along our fellow churches and work together.

we attend a Nazarene Church most every Sunday...    we are actually not members of the church, but attend and support the needs of the people who attend there.   I've been lots of different places but have found the people who go there are some of the most loving and caring people I've ever met anywhere.    They're not all the same, but as we travel we've stopped across the country and it is just my personal experience that we notice a more caring attitude for everyone.....   even outsiders.    Oddly, 25 years ago that was not the case.

Patriot..O so true. One finds perfect and imperfect ( at least in their own minds) in all churches. We are human and have faults and flaws. However, there are those who are doers and those who are not, there are those who are in charge and those who, think they are in charge. Just like any other group...yes even born again Christians can get their noses out of joint.  I am just glad we can go to the Father in prayer and ask for forgiveness and walk away leaving it in His capable hands.

Don't at the denomination, look at the comfort level you find..are you welcome? Do you feel a part of the group? There is a great deal to be said about friendship...not all godly churches make you feel at home.

Don't you want to feel welcome and that you belong? That is a personal choice if someone wants to feel like an alien in the Church they attend.

Absolutely ..but not every church one walks into do they have that comfort feeling. The people, the service, the minister, the songs all play a very important part in the welcome.

We are members of a rural Baptist church, to me denomination is secondary as others have said, with sound doctrine and good fellowship being more important. We have 40-50 every Sunday, and are quite close to a number of the there people there. Although the service it's self is more traditional in style that we would like we have been very warmly welcomed by the congregation and the preaching and fellowship is very good.

I think it's important to be a part of a local church, that looks different for different people, some go to church in grand buildings every Sunday, others believe that the church should meet in homes and not have a paid minister. Others believe that you should go to church on Saturday, as it is the original Jewish Sabbath. The point I am making is people can be very legalistic on their view of what constitutes church, with some very strong views on the subject.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
