Thank you for all the replies. I have been looking at bibles today, who would of thought choosing a book would be so confusing. Not sure whether just to stick with KJV or try and locate one which uses grammar and syntax of today.

The first bible I ever owned was the Good News for Modern Man -  it was so very easy to read.  I would recommend one that is easy to read, and pray and ask God to open the scriptures to you.

I just picked up a bible from Max Lucado at the Mission store , I don't know much about this Bible and started to read it, it is very easy reading and I believe if you want to know what is in the Bible this could be a good start , I was planning to give it to somebody who lost her Bible and is looking for an another Bible. I always use the NKJ myself but I have to say so far I like this Max Lucado Bible also, it reads the Bible like a story~~

I would caution that bibles put out by an individual will have notes and such which reflect the individual's understanding which may or may not be correct or appropriate.   Max Lucado has some very questionable ideas, and for someone just starting out learning about christian beliefs, I would not recommend his bible.

I would recommend a simple standard translation that is not tied to some particular group or individual.

But a translation that is like reading the bible like a story is what I was going for -  that is why I was very, very fond of the Good News for Modern Man that I had when I first converted back to God as a teen.

I read holmes christian standard study bible. You should look up a bible your considering cause there are a few that change the translation to support specific beliefs that are not always suportable. If you like to study heavy the blue letter king james with hebrew and greek is real nice

That is a complex topic, of much debate なつこ, but I wouldn't worry about that much. Some think that the KJV is the only Bible in English, that is legitimate, others think that Bible based on the same manscripts that the KJV is based on, are legitimate. I happen to believe that later translations, based on older manuscripts, are a better choice. However, I would offer this, every doctrine about God that we need to know, is contained in Bible from both manuscript families. I recommend that you get a Bible, that you can understand, and will read. That is more important the the KJV/other version debate.

You know, you can go online at places like http://biblehub.com, and read many difference Bible, and decide later.

Also, this might be a little dated, but check out http://dlee.omegazine.com/resources.html to see other ways of accesing the Bible.

There are those will want to bring the KJV debate into this thread. I will not let that happen, Any post that brings that debate here, will be deleted. There are already threads of the forums, where that debate is ongoing, Those interested in that, can read about that topic in those threads. I am not going to tolerate the confusion of a seeker by version evangelists.

Omegaman has a great suggestion -  www.biblehub.com is a great resource.

When you're ready to get a bit more into the scriptures and original languages,  www.blueletterbible.org is a fantastic resource as well.

I should also have mentioned that there are parallel Bible available, Bibles with more that one version, bound in the same book, so that you can compare them side by side. Some modern version also point out variences in ancients manuscripts, in the foot notes pn the bottoms of the page, Lack of information, is not an issue to modern Christians, sorting through the aboundance of information, is the harder part.

We have different Bibles and also the parallel Bible, if you want to compare the translations side by side is very time consuming. If you want to read to Bible to know what is in the Bible I would take a more modern version. If I study the Bible I use my NKJ..

The Lord will use any translation to get your attention :)

I have never found that to be that much of an issue. How much time can we devote to the study of God's word? Twenty minutes of reading a day, will get you through the Bible in one year. of course, 40 minutes a day, could get you through two versions of the Bible in one year, or, stay with 20 minutes, and it takes 2 years. Most people spend more time each day watching TV commercials that reading the Bible, it is up to them to figure out which is more important, and adjust their priorities. Most people, who call themselves Christians, as near as I can tell, never read the Bible even one time in their life!

This thread does not need to spend time cataloging how many ways we can come with to explain 'how hard it is". The fact is, there is nothing hard about it, it is just a decision.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
