These people did not lose their salvation.  They were never saved at all. 

Jesus said, "And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me...'"

 

They cried out "Lord, Lord" for their own vain glory.  They boasted in front of Jesus of works.  But Jesus said he never "knew" them.  Jesus says that they start off by telling him how it's going to be, but in the end, he has to declare the bad news that these people are strangers to him.

 

EDIT:  And you have to take in consideration and context the entire sermon of which this passage is the end.  And you have to take into consideration whom he is talking to and why he is saying these things in this very long sermon.

The thief called out to Jesus and was the only obedience to Scripture he had... a works based
salvation is in direct opposition to Scripture's teachings:

Eph 2:8-10

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

     / first salvation begins by God /      / then works follow as a result /
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

they will be producing fruit... the person who believes their works will save them denies the finished work of
The Christ and will perish.... it is this simply

Have you people who do NOT believe the following are for today:

-- the baptism with (in) the Holy Spirit

-- the 5-fold ministry (listed in Eph 4:11)

-- the 9 spiritual power gifts (listed in 1 Cor 12)

actually been born-again with the indwelling Holy Spirit?

The precious indwelling Holy Spirit was sent to earth

to teach born-again believers "all things".

But, He is not ... because they are NOT OPEN to hearing spiritual Truth.

Satan, through the churches, has drastically deceived them into

believing all kinds of false doctrines!

Benjamin Baruch is an adviser in stock market trading. He claims he was struggling with a financial problem and in the end he decided to pray to God and asked him for the answer. As per very mucho usual ... God did not give him the exact time-frame of future events!

So, he did his best at guessing it ... which he probably should not have done.

Because it just provides another stumbling block for those who do not understand what is going on!

Spiritual Truth is only for those with the eyes to see and ears to hear.

However, not to fret ... because they will understand quite soon indeed (2016-17).
