Your Authentic Self...

What makes you - you? Do you really know? 

"As a man thinks, so is he."

Do you have a more authenitic self, what is that person, and who would know that? 

Does anyone know who you are supposed to be?

"A man's heart devises his way, but the Lord directs his steps" Proverbs 16:9. 

Who do you think you are now? 

"There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end of it is death."

Are you at home with your life now? 

What makes you know that you are the same person after a sleep, after unconciousness?

And who will you be in the resurrection, a clone, another you, some of you, or a part of you, someone else?

I Corinthians 13:12 "But then shall I know, even as also I am known."

Are we supposed to be changed before that day?

"Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind."

How do we become what we are supposed to be?

"Let this mind be in you which was in Jesus Christ..."

 

What makes you who you are today? Is it inheritence, is it God, or sin, or your own life?

    Interesting Subject,,,,,,,,,I don't really think much about myself these days & what makes me,me,,,,,,,it is all so much about what I am here to do rather than who I am,,,,,,I'm simply a child of God,,,,,well,not "simply" but fearfully & wonderfully made,,,,,daughter of God Most High,,,,,,,,I am everything I am because of Christ in me,,,,,the purpose of my "being" is to focus on Jesus,,,,,,,if I take my eyes of Him then I have not the Heart & Mind of Christ,,,,,,,,,,

    I don't care about me,that is "who I used to be",,,,,,,,,selfish ,prideful,vain ,,,,,thinking of "me" first,,,,,,,,,that is not where I set my thoughts because the Purpose of "HIS Calling" is far more important,,,,,,,,,,,

    I honestly don't even think I can understand what you are asking or wondering,I'm just not there,,,,,,,,it IS GOD,ALL about God & because of His Love,Mercy,Goodness,GRACE,,,,,I have that inheritance,,,,,,heir to HIs Kingdom,,,,,,,this life,my flesh,is temporal,,,,,,,I only aspire to think,see,hear,speak act with the Mind of Jesus,,,,,,,I believe that is WHO I Am,,,,,,,,I am that part of His Body,,,,,,,,I only know WHO I AM IN CHRIST,,,,,,,the old "self"has past away,,,,,,,

I like this question too.

Of course I am the person because of my faith.  There are just certain things I live by because of Jesus.  

I am also the person I am because of my parents and the way I was brought up.  I was raised in the 60's Parents meant business.  The word NO in my house was not a word you argued with.  I had terrific parents and yes a lot of me came from how they raised me.  I am still that person.  When I get that "check" in my spirit I listen to it.  I never want to do anything to hurt my Heavenly Father or dishonor my parents even though they are no longer alive.

The real me is the Jesus in me.  If I  sound like i"m rambling I"m sorry.  I only know I want to honor both my mom and dad and my Heavenly Father.  I want people to see the Lord in me in everything I do, or say.

I am eager to hear something from people who love the Lord.

You have said something which speaks of the mystery of godliness - "the purpose of my being is to focus on Jesus" allowing self to be lost in love and admiration.

"The old self has passed away" Where was the new self before this began to happen?

Let's say that we are fallen and have not known the Lord.

Is there anything which governs who we are from day to day, what keeps a person from changing into someone else from day to day?

And is that important, or should there be far more flexibility, like a reset button?

That sounds like you are settled. And it is not hard to see that the key factor is parental love and care, which gives you an established sense in life. And of course Jesus in your life, confirms every good relationship.

The basics in the light of God's Word foundations us to understandings that are not of this world nor can be...
I will use myself so as no offense:
There are two Stevens the first one born naturally through the womb of water was born dead into a world
that is dead... I could recognize good and evil but I could only in the narrowed sense of self being the first
priority. I was brought to the realization of what I was by the Word of God and understood / given sight /
made to know that what I needed I did not possess. Here is where I called out to Jesus to save me.... the
second Steven begins by The Will of God for The Glory of God...

   For awhile I searched in wrong places due to the overwhelming aspect of first born realities and that was
all that I had ever known. It was here in this search that I came to the truth -His Word- is the meal of faith
and I must render all of myself /to/ it's structure by faith formed from it! Hence a nearly starved to uselessness
for God I began to grow. As I look back I am amazed at God's ability to be there yet by me totally unaware of
His presence and till we draw near to His Word and make it the importance -due to- It is His design to deliver us
from this place we are in! When we are in the right priorities, as all His Children should be, we hear Him through
His Precious Living Word-> which the written Word and The Holy Spirit produce and we receive living realities
more satisfying than all else that is known, His presence in our lives validated s/Spiritually...

   Your post screams of the need to examine-> to be of an assurance that He 'IS' within our lives... God's Word
assures us that God desires this for every child of Adam throughout all time without respect of person!
When one puts forth the list of all God has done since the slaying of the animal to cover their shame in sin...
The conclusion can only be epitome of The Cross that God placed Himself upon to say yes, but more, show
His love, of which, He wants us to be of the same!!! We will suffer here for this Love we are to become (however)
what else is there to do when one is revealed to It's substance as the only substance that exists in truth ? ! ?
Draw back to a fake love that only gives to receive? Draw back because it is to painful to the first born elements
that God is not keeping? Draw back? Once the Love 'IS' invested within our b/Being we cannot draw back because
there is nothing to go back to...   Love offered without accounting for it comes from and endless source...
