I also prefer the New King James Version NKJV.  But I often compare with ESV and do like it.  NASV New American Standard Version is considered the most faithful to its text, but I don't prefer its text and it does not flow in English.  ESV is better in that regard.  These are all literal translations, which I most recommend.

KJV and ASV use antiquated language like thee and thou, and some words have changed in meaning since King James.  I love the Amplified Version but it also does not flow so total comprehension declines a little.  But I love word studies which it includes in the text.

NIV and others are not literal translations so I trust them less.

Rik,don't get confused about the right Bible,God can speak to you in every translation ,the people here who advice you about the right translation do not know it's not always easy to understand the Bible for you.

Read what you think you can understand, I believe your English is good enough to read the ESV in English? :)

Are you still looking for a Bible?

I enjoy the ESV, English standard version but I also have J MacArthur's study bible.

I'm not familiar with the king James version and it's use of an old language I found it was confusing.

Ray Comfort has a great study bible called the Evidence Bible.

Blessings to you.?

New American Standard, New King James, King James, ESV, HCSB ...all pretty basic and good and all come in versions without notes, such as Mac Arthur Study Bible.

I just ordered the NIV Stream in the desert bible :)

My Bible of choice is the New Living Translation. It's easy to understand and there are no verses left out like in the NIV and no editing some verses to leave out important info. MIne is a Life Application Bible.

My favorites as far as being the most accurate, is probably the KJV or the NASB. However, if your wanting something thats easier to read, my go to is the English Standard Version.

People ,the person who was asking for advice of which translation to read  is Dutch and it's not that easy for him to read an English Bible, the ESV would be best for him to understand, on top of that he is a new Christian ,it's important that he understands what he is reading ,don't you think?

Dear everyone,

Sorry, I haven't posted here for a long-time.
This forums stayed always in my mind, but I was too busy with my autistic problems...
Now I have some more time to study my Dutch Bible, and that is right what I am doing!

I have a really, for me, big question.
That question still bugs me a lot, so here it comes.

Which Bible is the most standard one in English??
On my wishlist of my favourite book-store is the "ESV MacArthur Study Bible".
But I just want a plain simple Bible, just like the Dutch New Bible Translation, called in Dutch "Nieuwe Bijbelvertaling".

Which Bible then do I need in English, if I want a normal English Bible.
I don't know which to choose...
Can you, brothers and sisters, help me choosing the right one.
I'm not a native English reader, but I would love to read His word in English!

Thanks and Blessings,

Rik

Hi,

You're going to get a lot of opinions here.  You write English very well so a lot depends on how well you know English.

I speak 3 languages, so here's my opinion:

The easiest bible to read is the NIV -New International Version.

The truest to the Greek is the NASB New American Standard Bible

I would suggest the NIV for anyone who knows Enlish by having studied it unless they have a Ph.D. after their name.

You'll find many Americans trust the KJV, King James Version.  Many Americans do not understand this bible. Many feel it is the inspired bible.  Every bible is inspired and will contain the Word of God.

I would choose by which one I UNDERSTAND the best. Probably the NIV.

That's my two cents worth (which mean my opinion doesn't mean much, but I still think it's the right one)

Fran

I would also like to say that your English is very well written.

Also, I admire that you could be a new Christian because I understand the situation there In the Netherlands.

God bless you.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
