For religious reasons, self righteousness.  Dancing can be found in scripture, so to say it is wrong goes against scripture.  I can see how some dancing can be seen as wrong, but not dancing in general.

Nothing wrong with dancing as unto the Lord :)

He's turned my mourning
Into dancing again
He's lifted my sorrows
I can't stay silent
I must sing
For His joy has come

:emot-dance:

Psalm 149:3

Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with timbrel and harp.:emot-heartbeat:

Oh boy,I think I misunderstood the question,I don't know what made me assume the OP was talking about dancing in church,lol......After I saw your reply I went back to re-read it,he never said "in church"...silly me!

Yes,that makes pefect sense, isn't that pretty much what the ,movie "Dirty Dancing" was all about? That was a big tudoo down in the Bible belt..... the heathens went to dance halls & bars

I'm not much younger than you but I was raised in NYC,I LOVED to dance, went everywhere to dance, never drank but hung out on the dance floor all night, dancing changed in my time,,,you danced sort of free style & not touching your partner & then came "disco".....it was a work out but nothing promiscious about it.......my mom & dad did the lindy, cha cha, jitter bug,I can't imagine it leading to anything but soaking your feet & some ben-gay....lol

                                                                       With love-in Christ,kwik

I attended churches that did not allow dancing when I was young.  One mellowed when a new pastor came who introduced square dancing to the youth.    Another did not allow women to wear pants or people to dance.  But the pastor turned the pulpit over to an Assyrian Church bishop during his absence, who brought people up before the alter and taught us traditional Hebrew songs and dances!  It was so cool!

Over zealous / borderline pride & self righteousness.

Same with drinking.

Understand there IS dancing, then there is dirty dancing then there is just plain smut... and some is vulgar and pornographic.

My Beloved Wife and I were avid fans of Dancing With the Stars (even attended a Tuesday night broadcast with guest Dolly Parton which was awesome).

But at times even it crossed the line with our comfort zone and we are a bit more liberal with dancing than most.

So a carte blanc thumbs up for any and all dancing is NOT what I am saying. But folks can be too uptight for their own good about things... {sigh}

I watched dancing with the stars too and loved it as some people are so gifted , but there is other dancing too and that's where discernment comes in, don't you agree?

Nothing bad with dancing if done appropiate, some dancers danced absolutely beautiful!

The Bible doesn't address dancing. Inappropriate dancing is a sin.

Yes it does.

Psalm 149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.

Psalm 150:4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

Dance is used as an act of worship in Scripture

David did some dancing before the Lord. The scholars would have to see if the interpretation and translation is appropriate.   I know some pentecostal church may include a dance item in its church program for that day as a worship item.  Baptist on the other hand forbid it totally in  the church.  Outside the church, dance without the vulgarity , can be merry to the heart.  I am not a dancer as such, but like to shake my legs to a decent tune, why not.

2 Samuel 6King James Version (KJV)

14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lordwith shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

Yes, dancing in the Bible but not dancing that is done in our world today.
