So Proverbs 26:4-5 says Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are. Be sure to answer the foolish arguments of fools, or they will become wise in their own estimation. So what do I do here?

One in which we should answer and the other one in which we should not. How do we know which situation we are in? Pray about it and Holy Spirit will lead you and will exactly let you know what to do

Be sure to answer the foolish arguments of fools, or they will become wise in their own estimation. So what do I do here? Good question. The general principles and through process I use to decide whether or not to respond to something inane or meaningless or foolish is something like this: 1. Can I do it without sinking to the level of the original statement or becoming negatively emotionally involved? 2. Will the person saying it learn anything if I engage them? 3. Are other people being mislead by it? 4. Can I bring some clarity and insight to whole issue or is it so messed up that there is nothing to redeem? 5. Can I do it in a way that I can maintain solid Christian behavior? 6. What will engaging in the debate/dialog/argument do to my own reputation? 7. Is the topic even worth the effort? I usually run though a mental evaluation of the situation that involves these sorts of things. Usually, a couple of these issues jump out at me as a strong reason either to respond or to not respond. Who said it? Who is listening and how are they responding? How important is the topic, really? What's the impact if I do not correct it? What will be gained if I do say something? Have I dealt with this person before? Do I actually have something useful to say? Can I do it in graceful manner? For me, it's all about teaching people and helping them grow. If someone will not be better off for me having said something, I usually decide not to and save my time, effort, and credibility for someone I can do something constructive for.

Mostly though, let time pass and see what others post foolishly in response, knowing that not all thoughts and questions need a response from you personally. It is not up to you ( Us ) to have to be Mighty Mouse come to save the day. Often other people will stick their finger in the light socket first to test it, if you give them a bit of time.

Those verses are contradictiong each other,do not answer a fool in such a way that you will become the fool ,don't get angry or rude . Reprove or rebuke him as he deserves so he will not become wise in his own eyes.
